Default lingenfelter build?

soon to be coming into some money go re-enlistment bonus anywho, i am looking into the lingenfelter s/c package for my '06 LBM A6. car has exhaust, headers, vararam, and tune. its a pricey kit but they have a 3 year warranty on powertrain. its for like 600hp and i dont think at the wheels but im just looking for a very mild yet quick setup. thought about the head and cam thing but i'm kinda staying away cause of the issues i've had with my 2000 Camaro SS. anythoughts or personnal knowledge of their kit? all input welcome

Can anyone get that bonus? Some will have different opinions on the way to achieve more hp and performance for less but I'd go Lingenfelter in a second, if I could. Above is also an excellent choice. Lingenfelter covers you under their warranty (I think it's at your expense to get it there though) which is a big deal today. I think it's a good move.

I would not buy from them for the warranty. See post by Blue383 regarding his blown LPE motor that they refused to cover.

I have an 06 C6/A6/F55 with the LPE maggie supercharger they installed at 6000 miles on the car 2 1/2 years ago. The install was absolutely first class and the car has run flawlessly for 17000 miles since install( 23,000 miles total). I can't say enough good things about Lingenfelter or the maggie. The A6 transmission has held up fine, but I don't take it too the track or abuse it, just mainly have fun from about 20mph thru about 70 mph at 1/3 to/12 throttle, with an occasional quick blast up to 100 mph( on a closed course naturally) & this thing comes on like you won't believe in a seamless manner. When you are thru playing, it goes instantly to sleep with no supercharger whine whatsoever below 2000 rpm & drives just like stock( until you want to play & then it instantly comes alive). Great package & LPE is a great company. They can do anything else you like while the car is there, as I had them put dynamat in which dampens out the road noise nicely & some other stuff. I had some aftermarket wheels shipped in, & they went way above & beyond staying with it till the wheels were balanced properly. Good luck & glad to see you're putting that reenlistment bonus to good use.

Sterling reputations aside, sometimes the best shop in your town or nearby is the way to go. Think about it, esp. if you have a problem, need an adjustment here, a tweak there, want to upgrade, need a reprogram, etc. Who you gonna call?

I definitely do not recommend LPE. My experience with them has turned out to be a nightmare. I had selected them based on prior reputation for quality products and standing behind those products. I was expecting a proven design, top-notch people working on my car, and a tuner who would cover problems with the car should they occur.

Issues with the design have resulted in 2 timing chain creaks and rebuilds in 10,000 miles. The first time LPE said it was because the timing chain needed to be upgraded for track use (and yes I had told them I planned to run it on the track before they worked on it). When I questioned the underdrive pulleys they were using based on other posts they told me that they had looked into that and determined it was not a factor. The 2nd time I was told I must have over revved it and I could send it to them to look at. Not having much confidence in LPE's understanding of the problem, I had a local engine builder look at it and make repairs. He found potential issues with valve clearance and was concerned the underdrive pulleys. After my engine was repaired, LPE stated that they now believe there is a problem witth the underdrive pulley they use as several more cars have failed.

I also wonder if some of the people who worked on my car at LPE were really experienced. Gouges were found in the back of my block from use of bolts that were too long. I was told during the first repair that they had stripped one of my studs since there were only a few threads left with 3/16 wheels spacers installed - I was charged $414.40 for installation of longer studs as well as 10 new lug nuts. I asked that the old parts be returned to me in case I need to change back when I sell the car, and I got just 1 lug nut back. Note that I had removed and reinstalled those wheels several times myself with no problem.

As far as warranty coverage, it is covered only to the extent explicitly stated in the written warranty. LPE covered part of the cost of the rebuild the first time and had indicated they would help if the 2nd failure was their fault but by the time repairs were complete it was made clear to me that they did not have to cover anything and would not pay any of the costs of the 2nd rebuild or the portion that I paid the first time even though they knew there was a problem with their engine.

Bottom line, I think the company has changed a lot since John Lingenfelter passed away and there would be no advantage getting a supercharger kit there over a local shop. I will tell you I had engines from Callaway and Vette Doctors and both were good to work with.

I'm with Musclecar6 here. I had LPE do a Maggie package for my '06 about 2.5 years ago. Had a great experience with LPE and since that time, there's been 2 other members of my club get LPE Maggies and 3 others go with N/A packages. All members have been been thoroughly pleased with the results.

I had to sell my LPE car about a year ago, and it broke my heart to do so ... but I'm back in an '09... and as soon as I scrape up the cash I'll be headed back to LPE for another S/C package.

Nonetheless, I've heard great things about pretty much every supporting vendor. I don't think you'd go wrong with any of them.

I had a friend who had his car fully built by a major company and while it made great power I'd feel pretty bilked if i received what he did for the price.

I think it might be more cost effective to make the modifications "a la carte" and put together your own build (and pick a shop to do the labor/tuning). I'd also try to source the parts individually since there's a lot of savings to be had (and a lot of overcharges to be hidden on a long bill from a Shop)

Where are you located and how far are you willing to travel. There are several froum tuners/shops that can help you reach your goals and then some. They also have a great reputation.
