Exactly what do you, or your friends, mean by "break down"? What happened to their Vettes and what years?

haha nah, it's serious. money problems this year have caused my parents to push the date to when I turn 20 I have 8k saved up and I have their 15 to use when the time comes… if I keep working my job as I am, I’ll make almost exactly 9k by the time I hit 20. that way, I have 32k to spend on a corvette usually, i wouldn't bitch and moan about possible problems and taking something 3 friends said to heart, but... i've been saving this money up since i was 12 for this corvette, starting with birthday money and eventually ending up with a job. so, i think a little concern is warranted on my part.

i admit i may be blowing it outta proportion, but just being reassured that my dream car won't have the fabled problems my friends tell of makes my day better

29k corvette = autotrader search 300 miles from edison, min year 2005, max cost 30000. there's like, 50 listings. granted, it's already got 40000 on it, but it's still a corvette.

thanks for all the feedback, guys i love listening to the experts

Break down as in, the engine just stopped working; a new one was needed. one had his tranny stop working, but i guess with all that "clutch dust", it's not so surprising... all their cars were 2005. like i said, i wouldn't take it so seriously if so much wasn't riding on the reliability

My 06C6 has never been in the shop for a repair of any kind.

Hmmmm.......you're 18-19 years old and you have at least 4 friends that have 2005 Corvettes (maybe even more friends that have newer models). It sounds to me like Mom and Dad bought them their cars and they drive them like they don't have to pay for them. You can't go backwards at 20 mph, then slam it into drive and floor it, leaving real cool "J" shaped black marks and expect anything to hold up for very long.

27k miles here on a daily driver. The only problem I've had so far is a defective wheel speed sensor. It took a couple of trips to the dealer before they were able to catch it and they replaced the bearing/hub/sensor assembly under warranty.

There is no reason any car, particularly a C6, should be dying with such little mileage. This is assuming your friends didn't try beating the ever loving sh*t out of them. And believe me these cars can take a beating. Malicious abuse is another thing though. There is no reason you should worry about purchasing a used C6, provided you do all your homework beforehand and check to make sure any recalls and/or TSBs have been performed. Good luck and we hope to see you in the family soon.
