I ran the odyssey in my lotus elise got a trickle charger and never had a problem if you do not use the car for more than a week put the trickle on it for a few hours, you do use a different one that a stock battery charger.

Just an update. I've left the car sit for more than a week and it still cranks over just fine with the Deka battery. So far so good.

Let us know if it's the same after 6 weeks of letting it sit.

I don't that will ever happen. I live in California where I can drive all year long. The only reason it sat for a week is because I took a trip to the East Coast.

that's awesome. I love threads like this. $82 and some creativity and you knocked nearly 17lbs off your front end. Awesome.

The Braille would have cost twice as much for the same battery.

Just fine. It sat for four weeks in the Southern California "cold" weather (really, it has been cold lately) and it started right up. Honestly, if you drive the car at least once every two to three weeks you'll notice the difference. I had a forum member pm me last week to see how the battery was before he purchased one. A great way to save ~17 pounds of weight.

My Deka ETX18L is on its way from the same seller mentioned in the OP, $74 shipped. The Odyssey SAE terminals (ODY-3217-0006) were purchased from Summit through the same site.

EDIT:
1) Buy the terminals directly from Odyssey @ 1/2 the price of Summit & no shipping. http://www.tnrbatteries.com/saetead.html

2) In addition, buy direct from odyssey their Battery Hold Down Bracket, just drill holes in the OEM plastic battery tray. BTW-for extra hold down strength also reuse the OEM battery hold down, it snug’s up perfectly against the Deka on its side - http://www.tnrbatteries.com/odbahodobrbp.html

San, other than local auto parts stores which I have yet to check, where else might one find the adhesive-backed heat protection material? - Purchased from Summit

Thanks again

I'm trying this also...I just ordered my battery. Saving weight up front with a supercharger installed is great. It's nice that it is also on the passenger side where most of the added weight of the centri supercharger was added. Thanks for idea San

Nice write up. You're still running the stock manifolds, you will also save a nice chunk of weight when you swap those out for a great header.

Can this be mounted standing up? I dont have the skill to build custom mounting brackets, even though that does seem to fit real nice on its side and all.

San,

Great info!

I recently swapped out my headers and was disappointed in the weight savings..I weighed every piece I took off with a digital scale and weighed every piece I put back on and the savings was a difference of 12 lbs! Not what I expected....so at least if I do the battery swap thanks to your thread I can save almost 30lbs.

Thanks!

Yes i know the odyssey can be mounted anyway you prefer. I am actually planning on installing my PC680 this afternoon. I used it in my camaro and it worked great for that. 15lb battery. Easy saving of 20+lbs off the front end.

I picked my adhesive-backed heat material from Napa, but I've seen it at Summit. http://www.summitracing.com/parts/THE-13575/

Yes, it can be mounted standing up as there are multiple screw in locations for the terminals. I laid it on it's back to lower the center of gravity. There are boxes available as well.

The mounting bracket is just a piece of aluminum that I rounded the ends of, drilled two holes in and painted. It's really not fancy and I'd like to swap it out when I find something stiffer/better.

I've got LG LTs sitting in the kitchen and some Z06 mufflers and the NPP in a box. I also weigh my parts that I install versus the stock parts and keep all the weights in a spreadsheet.
