Default thermostat replacement

I am considering installing either a 160 or 180 stat in my o8. My question is, does that affect the computer or cause any drivability issues? Also, does anyone have an opinion on which brand to buy?

the computer needs to be told what temp, I put a 180 in and the car does seem to run a little cooler, temps don't seem to climb as much in traffic/around town

The computer doesn't need to be told anything at all unless you plan to also change your fan settings.

When I first bought my C6, I tested two different thermostats (a 160 and a 180) in a pan of hot coolant, measured with a digital thermometer. Both units started to open at almost exactly the same time. I chose to install the Lingenfelter 160 degree unit, have had no problems with it. Coolant temps stay right around 180 on the highway, seldom get above 195 in town.

I think it will help your engine overall. The high temps are mostly for emissions stuff. It spooks me to see the temps that high.
Most tuners will want a lower stat and cold intake air......they will repro the fans to turn on sooner.
You're not going to feel anything with the seat of your pants by just changing a therm.

when people say I seldom see above 1XX one should know what the outside temps are when they make that claim.
