Default Anyone Added a Shift Light??

My tach is 100% blocked from my view because of the way i have my seat and steering wheel set up. (do not have HUD in my car). so whenever i race i have to slouch and look under the steering wheel to see when i am going to hit 6500rpm.. this is kind of annoying and dangerous while racing.. I was thinking of adding what i call a little pen light somewhere to alert me (not blind me) when i am reaching redline. has anyone added one of these? if so i would like to know brand, rpm you have it set at and location you mounted it in the car..

tks, dal

I added a raptor shift light on the A-pillar. Mine was set at 6200.

My apologies for going off-topic, but how can you possibly set the seat and the steering wheel so wrong that you can't even see the tach at all?

I would be seriously worried that the way you've set the wheel up is going to seriously injure you if that airbag ever deploys in a crash...

Same thing, works great. East Coast Supercharging is where I got mine.

The Raptor can be moved around quite easily until you find a favorite spot.

I ordered the raptor directly from the manufacturer and I located the three wires for hookup right under the driver's dash.

well i do not know if this addresses your concern or question but: i am
6' 4'' tall so i have to put the seat back all the way to be comfortable with the pedals. then i like the tilt wheel lowered all the way for comfort. when all is said and done the top of the steering wheel blocks my view of the speedo and tach right at the very top of both guages. also maybe this will clear things up a bit.. when i talk about racing i do not mean on a track of any kind where you might be more inclined to sit up. i am talking about comfortable street mode and racing..

i personally like this light.. while it shows the " shift now" light it also has a digital read out for the tach.

I have the raptor it is great and to be honest anyone racing should not be using the tach to shift.

Most of the time the tach is off under hard acceleration and looking down at the tach is just a big no no...

Btw I am now moving to a progressive shift light which is better for rr.

you could do this if you have access to tuning software. if you have had your car tuned already i'm sure the tuner would do it free of charge.

The airbag is designed to catch the top of your chest in the event of a collision; with the wheel "lowered all the way for comfort", it is going to hit your abdomen, where that 350 mile an hour, explosively driven bag will most likely rupture your spleen, damage your kidneys, liver, etc... Please refer to your owner's manual about how to correctly set your steering wheel height; when properly set, you will be able to see your tach, and the airbag system will work effectively, potentially saving your life

it is fairly simple to hook up. I placed mine near the rearview mirror and set it around 6200 RPM. I followed this forum member's installation post...

excellent. funny what some of you guys consider "fairly simple to hook up".. i have not ready thru the write up yet but it looks like he tore his car apart to install this thing.. to me "fairly simple" is something you plug in.. thanks to all for the info. for safety and more accurate shifts i will be going with this raptor unit..

I take it you don't have HUD which already has a shift indicator?

the shift light on the HUD sucks i never see it, they should have made the whole screen light up or invert the colors or something so it's noticable.
even though the "UPSHIFT NOW" displayed in the DIC is lower your periferal vision still picks it up and it's alot more noticable then the shiftlight on the HUD.

If you are concentrating on your hud then your eyes are off the road which is not good.

A shift light is the way to go if you are looking to make consistent shifts at a specific rpm and be safe.

A shift light is also nice since it can easily be changed. For rr mine is set at 6300 for quarter mile 6700.

I guess "fairly simple" is relative. However, you only need to remove the lower knee panel on the right side which is held by screws and find the right tach wire. The rest is running the wires, etc. It took me about an hour to do.
