You might try taking the dipstick out and setting it aside for 5 - 20 minutes and maybe the oil in the tube will settle back down into the pan. Then if you put the wiped off dipstick in, you might get one well defined reading before the tube gets all oiled up again.
I take the stick out, wipe it off, and CAREULLY hang it in the latch on the open hood. Just remember not to close the hood or you'll have a bend stick and damaged hood. Put the rag over the tube to keep out dust while pumping gas. Get another rag, take the stick out of the hood and wipe off any dust, then you should get one or two good readings before the oil smears up into the tube again.
These engines are very sensitive to any tilt, front to back or side to side; I can get variations of 1/2 qt from tilt that is too small for me to see.
I warm up my car to at least a oil temp of 175˚, then let it sit on a level surface for about 10 minutes. Yank out the dipstick, wipe it off and then shove it back in for a few seconds. When I pull it out and inspect it usually one side is smeared with a high oil reading, so I check the other side and that should read true. That's it!
[QUOTE=goober51;1592984661]My base '13 is supposed to take 6 qts of oil.. I noticed last year when I changed it after putting 6 quarts In, the dipstick showed it was over full so I drained some out.. The other day I changed the oil again and put in 5 qts. The dipstick shows it is full.. anyone else had this problem? I never had this problem on any other vettes..
