I have an 05 Vette 4spd auto. I failed to do my homework when I purchased the car. Now I am told the ONLY option I have is a 3:15 performance axel ratio diff. I wanted the 3:42 diff that comes with the manual trans car but I am told this won't work in the automatic car. Is there another differential that will bolt up like maybe the GTO or Cadillac? My current diff is the standard 2:73. If I went with the 3:15 will the difference outweigh expense?
I may be wrong but I dont see any reason why the 3:42 would not work, with the A4 you may be turning a few more RPMs than you would like (depends on what your wanting to do with it) as opposed to the 3:15, mine is an 05 Z51 MN6 W/3:42 and turns 1500-1550 @ 60 MPH.

Who ever told you that you could only install 3:15 gears was wrong. Here are your most popular choices for an A-4, you can go 3:15, 3:42, 3:73 and 3:90. these can be installed by any reputable shop. I had 3:42's installed in my A-4 last December and a I'm very happy with the results. If you want more performance you can go to the 3:73 or 3:90 gear set.
Dont listen to either of these two guys, i did the same thing you did and have done several hours of searching to conclue that there isnt a cheap fix for our cars.

You're sort of right, a rear end swap is not a "cheap" fix. Mine cost $ $1795 with a hardened shaft. It was installed by a very reputable shop on Long Island. That price was very competitive and I doubt you'll get it done for much less anywhere else.. Like its been said before on this forum, "if you want to play you have to pay".. If not leave it stock and enjoy the car the way it is.

nobody said it was cheap, but switching from 2.73s to 3.42s or higher gears will provide a nice performance bump off the line and from a roll. Gears or a high stall Torque converter are excellent mods for the A4 and neither effects emissions / state inspections.
