I was wondering if anyone knowsif the launch control in 2010s is simply a matter of programming the computing system or does it require any driveline "hardware"? I was thinking that if its simply a reflash, of sorts, then it could be installed into earlier cars like my 2008 Z51.

If you mean a two step, then check the MSD box on their web site. I just installed one on my coil-on-plug 99 Mustang turbo car and it works fine. The instructions covered GM coil-on-plug cars as well. I don't know why it wouldn't work.
On the Fords, a two step can be programmed in for 99-04 cars, I do it all the time, and used it when my car was nitrous only. It cuts fuel, however, and I needed a spark cut for the turbo, so I went with the MSD box. I don't have much experience with it yet, however.

This is not a two step. The factory launch control on all 2010+ C6s is a lot more advanced and involved than that. It controls actual engine torque, dynamically, via the electronic throttle and ignition timing.
I have a two step on my C6 right now; it lets me leave the line at the same RPM every time, but that's it.

I agree, he could not retrofit his '08 with the '10 system. Forget that.
I know exactly what a two step is. If he wants a constant rpm launch with an ETC car, this might do it. There are a zillion MSD boxes. This one I have used is a model 8734 and it cuts spark to hold a set rpm until until released, independently of the computer controls. Perhaps I missed what the OP wants. If he wants a fixed launch rpm, this box should do it. I would expect the misfire codes would have to be defeated but that is it.

From what I understand of the system is using the same hardware as any 08+ model. Basically power is modulated by monitoring individual wheel speeds via the ABS sensors, the same manor that the stability control works. Looking for wheelspin and monitoring engine load the ecu then adjusts the throttle and spark to optimize launch. Sounds like a lot is going on there, but honestly as a software engineer I can confidently say that it's a relatively easy concept to implement and most of the work comes down to final tweaking to make sure the car is hooking up properly.
The OP has an '08, so I was right ....according to you it can only be done on '09's.
Congrats on your success, I understand your position about "revealing" your secrets but at least let us know how well it works. Is the physical launch procedure the same as the '10 factory system or do you need to flip switches and twiddle ***** as you go to make it "work"?

It's 100% factory like the '10 put it in comp mode, first gear clutch engaged and floor it
