Hey,
I know you all have been seeing posts for the MGW shifter.
I installed one in my 2008 c6. All I can say is Damn.
It is everything they say it is. and then some.
With the stock shifter, under WOT. I would miss 3rd on a regular basis.
I took the beast on a test drive after installing the MGW shifter. I can slam 3rd just like I can slam 2nd, every time.
There is zero slop, tight and very accurate.
My son has a B&M shifter in his 1990 Mustang, when he took the Vette for a spin, he asked me where to get a MGW for the Stang.
Careful with that newly-found ability to "bang gears" in that 6-speed. You just might find out the hard way what that can do to shift forks, as I did this week.
I think I figured it out.As for thninking you all were lying. no. I am just one of those kind of guys that researched stuff prior to making any purchase. Just because a bunch of people say it's great, doesn't necessarly mean it is. The reason for the post was to confirm that the product kicks ***.
I already know where to get a MGW shifter for my sons Mustang, What I was trying to say, is he really liked it and wants to get one for himself.
As far as learning how to shift, How do you shift when you are WOT.
If you take your leasurely time, you will lose. I suppose you have a different terminology for agressive shifts. I call it slamming shifts. Grabbing gears. etc. I have been driving perfomance cars for 30 years and think I know how to shift by now. I suppose you could ask all of those that have seen me pull away from them (At the track of course)
SlickShoes,
Do you have an aftermarket shifter?
What happpened to your shift forks?
I much rather learn form someone elses mistakes, than to make my own.
hehehe
I have an 08 and from the factory (when warm) it shifts so much better than the 2006 (CMY Six has that year), so I understand taking the time to decide if the positive reviews that mostly came for 2005 - 2007 applied. I'm seeing now that 2008 and 09 guys are loving the switch too, so I may make the switch. I haven't been missing shifts or I'd have switched by now.

Quoted for posteriority. I will paste this on your thread when you ask the forum why your gears are grinding / why the car won't go into gear easily, then I will explain to you that your transmission has synchros that have very fine teeth made of brass, and that those teeth need to mesh in order for the car to go into gear. While you were "pulling away from everything on the road" via your uber fast shifts, you ruined the teeth on your synchros. The repair bill begins at $1000 for a transmission removal and teardown, and goes up from there depending on what you broke...
But hey, what do I know... If you drive for long enough, you become able to abuse the drivetrain with no consequences right?
I also just installed a MGW shifter and am very impressed. I have a 2009 C6 and was very happy with the factory shifter. I was so happy in fact, that I felt it hard to imagine the MGW shifter would be a very noticable improvement. I had also never missed a shift, so did not really want to mess with something that was not broken.
Let me just say that I am very glad that you all convinced me to try it, as it is by far the best shifter I have ever tried. And to think it isn't even broken in yet.
Mine is on it's way here scheduled for delivery this week. Anything you learned on the install not covered in the instructions or that you would do differently?
I found out you can replace it without removing any wiring other than the hazards. The other wiring was just to difficult to unplug. Everything else went very fast and easy.

There was a guy on another thread who was convinced the 09 shifter was beyond reproach. Stock GM shifters leave a lot of room for improvement, regardless of the year. Glad you enjoy it.

Other than that congrats on the shifter
And even after all this retoric--you guys have still dodged the OP's question "so how do you guys shift at WOT?"
I think the OP is trying to be very forthright and you guys are being harsh. THIS IS A GREAT FORUM--SO HELP NOT HINDER!!!
And I do want to hear about the shift forks!!! so either PM me also please or post!

WOT = Wide Open Throttle. I don't; I take my foot off the gas for a moment when I shift and I only shift as fast as the transmission will allow me to without having to force it in gear, because understanding how transmissions work, I realize that the thing I am forcing is fragile and made of relatively soft metal.
Its worked fine so far... 59000 miles, modded since 12K, making 600 to the tires for nearly 30K miles now. As a side note; I'd love to see someone "slam gears" fast enough to make up for that much power
See, now that you've explained, I think we (maybe only I) are talking the same language, just different words. I do not shift without lifting, and I never force a gear, but do as fast as the gate will allow. I miss third about 30-50% of the time at WOT unless I blip (for some reason it works better) that's why I am glued to these MGW posts. I always get the most acceleration out of my machine, but in respect to its longevity. I've got 550-570 at the wheels (depending on the dyno).
