Default Stealerships SUCK!!!

So i had engine failure labor day weekend 4 states away from home in a small town in alabama. The good news is I had a extended aftermarket warranty with the car when i bought it. So they replaced the engine and paid for labor to remove the old and install the replacement engine. The bad news is i had a head cam installed in the old engine and tuned to them. So i called tx speed and bought a new cam and lifters gaskets etc. So i tell the dealership which by the way was the only place around to get this work done that i want to use the heads off my old engine as well as intake injectors and other goodies on the new engine. Here is where it goes bad!!! the engine came and was put on a engine stand and by the way it was a complete engine including manifolds which i didnt need. they needed to basically do a head cam swap on a engine on a engine stand. sounds easy right? not exactly!! the car was put back together yesterday and i got the call today saying i owe them for 20 hours labor because thats what they said it took to swap out the heads cam lifters intake and injectors!!! yes you heard right 20 hours labor!!! so i call tx speed along with vengence and other shops and they say the same thing i told the service manager "dude ya smokin crack?" they swore up and down thats the time it takes and as i began to tell him that the engine could basically be broken down in 2 hours he called me a liar and i said i am about right on that time and maybe 6 hours to assemble it back and again i was called a liar and he hung up in my face!!! the sad thing is they kinda have me bent over knowing i needed the repair done and there was no other place anywhere around to have it done so they basically are robbing me blind!! i called other speed shops from the forum and hopefully some of them will read this and pm me so i can give them a fax number so they can send me a quote or estimate of the actual time it takes. i already have 1 from tx speed of 6 total hours of labor and 595.00 total price. thanx tx speed and hopefully if i get enough quotes from dealers i can take this paperwork down to alabama with me to hopefully get this reduced seeing how its looking like everyone in the country can do a h/c swap in 8 hours or less on a motor out of the car but the stealership who just so happens are ase certified to work on a corvette in the 1st place!!!

certainly a tough break! I would have discussed all this prior to letting them touch my car. Best of luck to you.

Let me get this straight... You had a Head, Cam and Tune done to your engine, it blew up and your Extended Service Contract paid for a factory replacement engine and labor.

You then ask them to swap the heads, cam, lifters etc and you are complaining about the price of the extra labor

I don't see what you should be complaining about. Sound like you got a sweet deal.

What is the name of the Extended Service Contract you added? With that type of coverage I would want to purchase it also..

yes i am complaining about it. thats why i got the extended warranty so that i wouldnt have to pay alot out of pocket because well i dont have alot of money!! my money is tight and when you look at having to buy a new cam lifters gaskets etc a plane ticket to get back to the state its in the hour and a half ride from the airport to the sealership the gas back the time missed from work hotel stay as i cant do it all in 1 day then throw in labor that i shouldnt be charged for yea i am complaining. sweet deal or not does not mean it gives someone the right to rip me off when for labor that clearly was not used to do that swap. 800 bucks more than it should be is another months rent for me or food bill and gas money for the month. again i dont make a killing and because i drive a vette doesnt mean i have a mansion and money is no object

This is not an attack against you. Instead I am impressed you managed to get a Modded and Tuned motor replaced by your Extended Service Contract.

What is the name of your Extended Service Contract? Is is GMPP (General Motors Protection Plan) or another company. I want to purchase it.

I agree with joe11204. I'm surprised you got a new engine when your old one was modified. I bet the warranty company didn't know that and I'm sure your policy specifies engine modifications void that part of the warranty.
Your financial problems are not the dealers problem and why didn't you get a quote in writing before work started?

Imagine how many months of rent it would of cost you if you had to pay out of pocket for a new motor plus the labor to have it installed..

WHAT IS THE NAME OF YOUR EXTENDED SERVICE CONTRACT ??????

I want to purchase one !!!!!!

So you got over on the warranty company, it could have cost you way more had either you or the dealer been honest w/the warranty people. I'd pay the 20 hrs and run like he!! before you tick off the dealer and he fesses up.

Please share with us who they are so we can all share .....

did you ask for an estimate for the extra work? i work at a "stealership"(though a ford, lincoln, mercury)i know of no aftermarket warranty company that would have covered an engine with this many mods.if you did not ask for an estimate pay the cost and run,you are extremely lucky they paid for the engine. calling someone a liar is not going to get you a discount.

I'm with these guys on this one. Your heavily modded motor goes out and is somehow covered under warranty, then you have your H/C swapped over on a brand new shortblock so those previous mods weren't a waste. So you have a brand new block and your H/C installed for what, 2K? ($100hr x 20?) I would be ecstatic
