Default Race with a moded Terminator

My buddy just bought an 04 pullied cobra with a tune and cat back exhaust. I know the 03-04 cobra's are wicked fast but I will lose sleep at night if I lose. My mods (LS2) are vararam, ported tb, and catback. He claims to have 400+/-rwhp.

This will take place on a closed course

Yea he's making 430rwhp+, so you're gonna have your hands full. Get some longtubes, cam, and a tune and you'll be ok

Thats what I thought. I think the pulley is off of a lightning so its not the best pulley for the car but I figured I might be in trouble. Thanks for the input.

From my experience, a c5/6 can hang with a cobra making 100 more hp b/c of better weight and aero. So in this case, I'd say it's going to be a drivers race.

Now is your car really a fair race for any mustang?

if you are running from a dig, put some decent tires on. Get the jump and find out if he has the power he claims.

How is he making anywhere close to 430RWHP with just a pulley?

The car has 390HP stock, putting the RWHP at about 310-315HP?

I think he would need a full bolt on and jack the boost way up to get to 430RWHP.

If it's a lightning pulley it's a 2.93 and can push RWHP as high as 475 depending on accompanying mods.

Stock blower runs at 8lbs. The 2.93 upper bumps this to 13.5lbs.

These cars were way underated at 390. Most dyno at 360RWHP stock so that puts them close if not over 400 crank HP from the factory. Ford choked these cars down from the factory and tuned them pig rich. Just a CAI & cat-back is good for 40RWHP!

Here is a dyno video of my '03 Cobra. The only mods on this car were a K&N CAI, full exhaust (JBA shorty headers, Magnaflow catted mid-pipe, Magnaflow cat-back), a 2.93 pulley, and a tune from James at RWTD. Check the power... (465/460). Now look at that torque curve...

Depending on the OP's mods he may have his hands full....

WOW! I didnt know those 03' Cobra's were that strong, I just actually looked up a few on autotrader, you can get a low mileage 03' for 20K or a little more.

Is it only 03's that are that strong?

03-04 Cobra is one of the greatest bang for the buck power cars one can get their hands on. Its no slouch so give it its due respect.

Bad news: he is probobly packing 420-430 rwhp and plenty of tq across the band. I think overall he has a deeper gear set with the T-56 and 3:55s which will help out of the hole. He should/will take you out of the gate.

Good news: Pullied up stock eatons on terminators tend to go past their efficancy area during high end pulls due to excess heat. Not only is your car lighter but it will cut through the air better. What does this mean? You will start making gains at 90mph+. The faster the race goes the better shape you will be in.

I'd say if your running 1/4 and your nose is no farther back than his quarter at 1/8 you have a chance.

Make sure you let us know what happens. Good Luck

No, the 04's are the same way. Terminators are VERY MOD FRIENDLY!!! Complete forged bottom end right from the factory. Manley rods and all... There's a black 10th anniversary 2003 Cobra at my local car lot right now. They only want 18K.

+1.

If this is a race from a dig for only a quarter mile or so you may have some trouble. If it's a roll race up into the triple digits you'll definately have the advantage.

Even I get nervous when I pull up to a Terminator with A Pillar gauges. :o They can get wicked fast really cheap and easy. Then slap a Kenne Bell on and it's a whole new ballgame.

You will definitely have your hands full. Expect to lose to your buddy but don't lose sleep over it.

Are they called "terminators" or is that just a street name?

The ken Bell is the upgraded supercharger?

When the engine was in development it was the code name Ford gave the project. It has stuck ever since.

Let me say it agian these cars are the real deal (in a straight line). It's what I would call an overpeforming car as is the car is faster than its specs. I actually have more respect for the 03-04 cobra than the newer GT500. The GT500 is really not much faster than the 03 Cobra. Could be the fact its almost 2 tons!

Terminator: Rated at 390hp actually dyno around 360-370rwhp.
GT500: Rated at 500hp actually dyno around 440rwhp.

My 03 Cobra with catback and Cold Air kit made 416rwhp. With a pulley and a tune they can make 450ish rwhp. Ported blower and your in the 500rwhp neighborhood etc... Those cars are awesome, its just too bad they are heavy!

I had a 2.76 upper pulley, tune, cold air kit, and catback. ANd the car would go 11.7's all day long. Put the ported blower and lower pulley on it along with an off road pipe and never got a chance to take it back to the track.

Yup, absolutely. That was just a friendly match between myself and an old buddy... He wants to go twin turbos now... That should really change things
