Can anybody tell me if there is a scanning tool for my 2005 C6? I took it to AutoZone and pep boys neither one of them could read the codes, but the dealer could. It cost $90.00 just to tell me what the code was for. I fixed the problem, I think, but after two weeks the check engine light came back on.
Any OBD2 code reader will work if it's C.A.N. compatible. They will only read emission's related codes. If it is another problem the dealer is the best bet. Their Tech 2 cost around $3,500.
I've seen different brands for $50 up to several hundred. I paid $160 for mine. The more you pay the more features it has. I've never used mine on my cars but use it often on the neighbors and relatives.
I just bought a cheap one on Ebay for 50 bucks but you need a laptop/PC to use it. It's based on the ELM327 chip interface. It came with some shareware software that lets you read and reset codes. It connects to the CAN interface on the vette. It also connects to everything in my driveway from a 98 Jeep to a 06 Dodge Ram. I downloaded a few other demo versions of software that I found on the net for this device. They all connect. If you want more functionality out of the scanner you can upgrade the software. PM me if you want more info.

If it's OBD 2 it will work on any auto sold in the US model year 96 or newer. It's a federal emmisions law.
It was about $200. I don't remember exactly which one it is as I'm not home now, but I've used it on 4 different cars '96 or newer and it reads all of them.
I have a ACTRON 9180 and it has a LOT oc capabilities. It can data log. It works on C6 CAN bus engines.
It ill NOT display any BCM DTCs This fact is true for almost ALL after market scanners. If you need to read and daiplay BCM or BODY DTC, the TECH II is the answer.
