My '05 seems to have developed a squeaking/rattling sound that is coming from somewhere around the belt. The wierd thing to me is that if I rev hard the sound goes away, then after a while it'll return. Anyone ever heard of anything like that? I'm going to replace the belt, but don't know if that is really the problem.
Check the harmonic dampener for wobble or shimmy..With the car running take a flashlight and look down the face of the balancer. it should be running flat and smooth. It may have a tiny bit of wobble, but I stress tiny..If uncertain take it to the dealer or trusted mechanic. Some guys had the issue start with just the belt squeaking..
It can come off and make a big mess..There was a recall for certain vin 05's, but it has been reported to affect 05's that were out of the vin range.
I agree. I have an 06 and I needed to replace mine at 27k ish miles. You do NOT want the kind of problems that thing can cause if it completely craps out.
By the way, if you have to replace it, it will be a good time to do a cam as you will save in labor
