Default header install o2 sensor question

I am about to install the headers on my c6. the headers are american racing i dont have the 02 extenders but today is the only day i have to put the headers on. if i install the headers can i put the front o2 sensor extenders(the ones that go in the header) on while it is on the car and not connect the rear and get them removed with a custom tune?

Your car will run fine with just the front 02 sensors in and plug the rear and tune them out.

I'm sort of confused by your post though. Do you not have extensions for the front 02 sensors yet? Your car will not be happy if you drive it with no 02's plugged in.

npe i dont have them yet and i have to put the headers in today no choice it will be weeks before i can do it again. i just want to make sure that when i get the extenders most likely tomorrow i can put them in easily with the new headers already installed.

Check engine light will usually come on after about 50 miles of driving.

You probably should not run the engine without the front O2 sensors connected. The ECU will go into open loop, but the O2 sensors need 12v power to keep them clean.
The rear O2 sensors are just used for a cat check and you can run fine without them, although they will set a code unless tuned out.

With american racing headers you don't need extensions for the front, only the back.

I don't think that is a true statement! You need extensions for all four sensors. The Front O2 sensors are in the OEM exhaust manifolds. The ARH O2 sensors are on the collectors.

OEM Stuff:

Look at the OEM exhaust manifold and you can see the O2 sensor pig tail. It connects to a plug under the fuel rail cover. No way that plug under the cover will reach the collector.

I installed these headers and it dynoed at 365 RWHP 360 RWTQ. It ran PIG rich and I was experiencing spark knock around 5500 rpm. I had it tuned by Chuck @ Corvettes of Westchester and the difference is AMAZING. Im guessing I have around 380-390 RWHP. Have not had a chance to get back to the dyno.

Guys, Our C6 systems require front and rear O2 extensions unless the rear O2's are tuned out. Bill that system looks snazzy all polished up.

I just installed my American racing system yesterday. It cam with and needed all 4 extended. The rears had heat resistant covering. The front dont need that since they dont run very close to the headers

Default Rear sensors

Sorry im a bit late to this conversation lol...so im in the same Scenario as the OP i only have extensions for the 2 front sensors and plan on tune deleting the 2 rears since im going catless, can i just plug the rears from the x pipe and put aside the harness connections or something?

yes that'll work, you'll eventually get a cat inefficiency code and a light but the car will run fine until tuned.
