What about a filter magnet? Anyone found any benefit?
Yep....Mobil 1 5W30 plus K&N HP1007 filter.....and yes, I replaced the stock drain plug with the magnetic type (C5) & do ocassionally see "whiskers" on the magnet when I change the oil.
?Wonder what's trying to die. Back in the old days of C-119's, you got some stuff on the magnetic plugs, you got a "chip light" and the engine had to be torn down. 'Course it's a little different for an engine on an airplane; if IT goes bad, no where to "pull over".
Says so on the filler cap...good stuff. However recently I was talking to a Wal-Mart oil specialist, and she said that the new 00-30 Mobil syn is better than the 5W because it makes starting easier and saves on gas and she had a number for that. And that it meets and exceeds all requirements set by 5W30 users. And she said it will become the new OEM for Corvette. Well, whats a guy supposed to do?
Quaker State HorsePower AC/Delco UPF48 filter
I have an oil filter magnet on my 130K (s)mile '01...Why ? it was given to me as a gift..Do I see any difference? i wouldn't know how to tell...
There are a bunch of oils that meet GM4718M specs. Okay to use any on that list. GM does not reccommend any oil over another, they just fill the car with Mobil 1 at the factory. http://www.gm.com/corporate/responsi...ngine_oils.pdf
Right now, Auto Zone has a sale. 5 qts of pennzoil platinum and a Mobil1 oil filter($12.99 value) for $29.99
Interesting read above, the carbibles, but I do have to wonder a bit when there's not even listed a synthetic 5W30 which is one of the viscosities for the C6. Maybe it's just a "representation" table?
I did some testing on my own race engines in 2008 and found the Mobil 1 0/30 to be some pretty special stuff.
I talked to Mobil while I was doing my oil development work, and they had said as long as the bearings don't have over 100k on them, the 0/30 will be fine.
I did see about a 1-1.5% increase in power compared to our sponsor's oil, so I paid for Mobil out of my own pocket. And I since have ran it in my Dodge Ram(400hp) with no problems. Seems to increase fuel mpg 1-1.5 also.

You used Wal-Mart and oil specialist in the same setence. Surely you jest (and I wasn't calling you Shirley).

I stopped at a Wal-Mart while on road trip to have the oil changed because there was nothing else around. The service writer asked me what kind of oil I wanted and I told him Mobile 1. He asked me what that was and I told him "good bye!"
