The stock clutch will get destroyed with drag usage, and will definitely fail out around 500whp, possibly even sooner. Sure, for a stock car, the stock clutch will be fine, but if this person is asking about power level limits and already talking about changing clutches, chances are he's going to bring the stock clutch to an early death. Take your snarky posts somewhere else.
Normally I'd agree with my St. Louis brother, but in this case my 360 5k-6k drag strip launches and 40k daily driver miles should be testament to the durability of the stock clutch. When minefinally goes I'll be replacing it with stock.
Wait a minute. So you think whatever happened in this video would not have happened if the guy had an aftermarket clutch?? If you've already made up your mind why did you ask in your original post how good the stock clutch was?
People need to lighten up a bit and enjoy a bit of humor every now and then.
My original post is the question. Simply looking for experiences and recommendations. For the most part I did get some good responses.
Happy Holidays to all, even those with a bit of a tight A%%.
Maybe it's you that needs to lighten up and enjoy a little good natured debate.
For the record, Jalopnik says the guy with the fried clutch had been abusing the car since he got it, herky jerky launches, bouncing the rev limiter constantly. Maybe a race clutch would have held up better. Not sure about the rest of the car. When I first saw it I felt bad for the guy but maybe he deserved it.
If the stock clutch was so good, the fastest C6 Z06s wouldn't be using RPS clutches... they'd still be on stock. Even with fluid maintenance, the stock clutch isn't the best. Mine "held" over 550whp, but it had a tendency to let go when powershifting 3rd to 4th. My RPS never does that, and the car has even more power now.
I've had a stock clutch, an Exedy twin, and now the RPS Billet Carbon... I have more room to compare than most people who just repost some crap about power levels other people have done on a stock clutch. Sure, it'll probably hold power while you're in gear... but it isn't that great when the car is getting driven the way it should.
