Date: January 4, 2010
Subject: 06041D – Safety Recall
Body-color Roof Adhesive Separation
Revised Service Procedure
Models: 2005-2007 Chevrolet Corvette
With Body-Color Roof
To: All Chevrolet Dealers
Attention: General Manager, Service Manager, Parts Manager,
Used Car Vehicle Manager, and Warranty Administrator
The service procedure in bulletin 06041D has been revised. Dealers are to no longer repair the vehicle using adhesive foam. The new procedure requires a roof replacement. All technicians are to review the revised service procedure immediately. Please discard all copies of bulletin 06041C, issued May 2007.
VEHICLES INVOLVED
Involved are certain 2005-2007 Chevrolet Corvette vehicles equipped with a body-color roof
and built within these VIN breakpoints:
YEAR DIVISION MODEL FROM THROUGH
2005 Chevrolet Corvette 55100005 55137340
2006 Chevrolet Corvette 65100001 65131106
2007 Chevrolet Corvette 75100001 75100030
Important: Dealers are to confirm vehicle eligibility prior to beginning repairs by using GMVIS
(dealers using WINS) or the Investigate Vehicle History link (dealers using GWM).
Not all vehicles within the above breakpoints may be involved.
I checked your VIN:
Campaign 06041 has been completed on your car so there is no additional repair required.
I hope that this helps!
I am confused with the comment "Campaign 06041 has been completed on your car so there is no additional repair required".
I was under the impression (perhaps mistakenly) that all previous repair attempts (including 06041) were found to be ineffective so a complete replacement would be required.
Bottom line: My vehicle falls within the VIN recall range, but has had 06041 performed ? Will I be subject to the current recall for a complete replacement ?
Many thanks for the clarification

BTW my vin # falls within that vin list...but I have the smoked glass see thru top...I contacted GM & my dealer Here in LI, NY...both said I was not on the recall list...I guess it ONLY applies to Color hard tops?

My VIN falls within the range for recalls. I had 06041 performed 2 years ago. My understanding is that the new recall (06041D) is still required even if 06041 had been performed.
I sent Ken a PM to understand the comment "Campaign 06041 has been completed on your car so there is no additional repair required" since I had not received a response from anyone else.
Thanks

They had not seen this memo, so they say. They now tell me that they have to get with GM to get authorization to do the replacement.

If my delaminated roof had hit anyone when it separated from the car, it would have certainly hurt them badly.

I am not real comfortable with this, but nothing I can do at this point except contact the dealer directly and see if they have the same answer...... (if I knew how I would place a smiley face with arms in the air and a question mark)

They ordered a couple different parts for it but after those were replaced the popping is still there.
Anyone else experience something similiar?
In the meantime I was at the gym last night and I talked to 2 technicians that work for the Chevy dealer. One wasn't aware of any recall. The other guy said that "Yeah, we have done 3 or 4 of them already. We need to order a new roof, then you will have your car back in about a week"
Going to call the dealer back today to get this setup.
Classic Chevrolet out of Mentor OH. My experience has been that they are pretty good.

The plastic inserts that I am talking about were slightly loose fitting in their mounting holes and when pushed around with my finger would make a snapping noise.
I removed the plastic inserts and applied a small amount of silcone RTV to te area under the lip of the inserts and reinstalled. I then took the car for a test drive and found the cracking/popping had stopped.
If anyone is having this problem with their roofs you may want to check into this inserts.
