LS3 block/stroker questions

Is a 4" LS crank a direct drop in for the LS3? Or does the block or rod ends need clearanced?
I'd like to keep the stock size pistons and rods, just with the longer stroke crank for a 416ci.
Wouldn't is simply be easier to put a new crank in the stock block rather than switch everything over to a whole new shortblock?
I'm just wondering, because I see all sorts of shortblocks available. But nobody really just doing a crank swap (sounds so easy, huh? lol. ) with the stock pistons or rods. I'm guess that it must be an enormous p.i.t.a. compared to an ol' SBC.
Thanks for any insight. I wish there was a class I could take, or something. haha.

As far as a class... I wouldn't know, but there are many *excellent* books on the subject.
Here is one:

Figure 6k with crate, shipping, upgraded pistons, and a good timing chain.
I have a great cam for it. Using your LS3 heads it will hit 540rwhp or 570 with a Trick flow 235.
