I was curious what anyone might be abke to tell me about the shifting between 1st and 2nd....that automatic lowering of acceleration, and then it shifs to 2nd...not complaining, just making sure it's normal. Also, how dependable is the rev limiter(is that right term?) when your stretching out the gears? I'm talking about does it have the ability to keep you from going too far and damaging the engine?
All nannys are off, The rev limiter is the only thing that will limit the car. No AH or TC, so be careful. 99.9 % of the time I drive with traction control off. That way you still have AH. Comp Drive Mode I use for auto cross racing only.
In competitive driving you still have active handling with less restrictive control. If you hold down the button for about 8 seconds, you'll get a/h and traction control both off on the display. That's the one you need to be careful with.
From the owner's manual:
Competitive Driving Mode
The driver can select this optional handling mode by
pressing the ACTIVE HANDLING button on the console
two times within a five second time period.
COMPETITIVE DRIVING MODE will be displayed in the
DIC. Competitive Driving Mode allows the driver to have
full control of the rear wheels while the Active Handling
System helps maintain directional control of the vehicle
by selective brake application. This involves less
intervention than with both the Active Handling System
and Traction Control Systems on. The instrument cluster
light will not be on. The Traction Control System will not
be operating. Adjust your driving accordingly
The rev limiter is 100% effective/dependable. when it hits redline, if you don't let off/shift in time, the power cuts out and the rpm drops. The whole process is fairly gentle actually. It's not at all dramatic and won't hurt the engine to hit the limiter.

Yep! I've hit that thang a several times, and the power cuts till you're back in the usable rpm range.
