Default Transmission Fluid

i recently purchased a 08, manual transmission, 21K. i just changed the motor oil out to Amsoil 5W-30. i searched the forum and found the recommended (staying w/Amsoil) diff fluid was the Severe Gear 75W90. However, for the transmission i see several opinions. is the ATF fine or should i consider something else. i live in San Antonio, the car is not my daily driver, and is only driven in good (although hot) weather. i don't plan on tracking or 1/4 'n.

Stay with AMSOIL fluid. Used when I was stationed in SA and still do. You can't go wrong.

You will need to buy 4 qts for the transmission. It will actually take somewhere from 3-1/2 to 3-3/4 qt so don't be concerned if you can't get the entire 4 qts into the manual tranny.

Since you have the MN6 manual, the factory fill spec is DEXRON III which is an ATF. The AMSOIL ATF product is the DEX III recommended replacement product and that is what I use in my Z06 for the past nearly 25k miles. I too use AMSOIL at the engine and differential as well. Congratulations on choosing a superior product as many of us have chosen. If you do enough oil changes yourself, consider joining the AMSOIL Preferred Customer Program at $20/yr. It allows you to buy from the webstore at dealer cost which is ~$2.25/qt savings over retail pricing for the motor oil for example. ~$3/qt savings on Severe Gear.

For the standard differentials without cooler/circ pumps, you will need to buy 2 qts. The Z06 and ZR1 diffs will require purchase of 3 qts. In both cases, you will not be able to put the entire purchased quantity into the diff housings so don't be concerned.

AmsOil is a fantastic synthetic. Go to their website, plug in your car data (year, model, etc.) and it will tell you everything you need to know about the oil, filters, etc. about your car.

FWIW... RPM would only fill my new Level V trans with Oreilly dextron trans fluid. It doesn't make a difference. Even the "cheap" stuff is fine!

Good choice
I just did the conversion of all fluids to Amsoil synthetic fluids including the power steering and anti-freeze.
I have not done the oil and oil filter because I have (3 cases) 3 years worth of Mobil One to use. I was using the UPF-44 oil filter but I have run out of them.

My other car is using Redline synthetic.

Default MN6 fluid

I run all Amsoil Fluids in my 1999 coupe w/ 135kmile
1st mn fluid recomended is ATD torque drive, just a tad more
anti-shear properties. ATF universal would be fine also.
