Default Cam Install Numbers

I had the Spin Monster Cam installed, wow it sounds great. The numbers were done on a Mustang Dyno.
Before Cam numbers were 365rwhp and 352 torque
With Cam 422rwhp and 373 torque

Do the numbers sound low? I have seen so many numbers with guys coming in the 500rwhp range.

Auto or 6spd, which cam specs (auto version vs. standard or revised 6spd)

Other mods?

Does seem a bit low for a cammed engine. Maybe needs more tuning? My 08 A6 did 427 rwhp 423 tq. with stock heads/cam and bolt ons on a Mustang dyno.

Other Mods are Headers, exhaust, K&N Intake, 160 thermostat. The first time it was dynoed with just the headers it came in the same, about 365rwhp. The car runs and pulls great. 6sp, Z51

57 more rwhp from a cam only is impressive. But the total numbers from your 08 seems to be low when compared to other 08's with similar mods.

The good news is that you did a baseline to figure out how much was gained from the cam. I would have thought you might gain a bit more, but that's still healthy... does the torque gain sound right?

For example, my 6MT LS3 w/ intake/tb/ported stock intake and C6Z exhaust made 418whp SAE, if I tuned it, maybe 428. So if I add your ~60whp gain to that, the car would make 488, which seems to be in the standard range for that cam.

That seems a little low all-around...I just had my 08 tuned with a CAI and B&B Fusion exhaust only and it was 406 RWHP/395 RWTQ

Unless that was on the same dyno he used, it really doesn't compare... the dyno he uses obviously reads lower than most, but that's why a dyno is a tuning device that can also be used to track progress of modifications, not something to use to compare numbers to other dynos.

You can see the increase, which is what is important. The fact that your dyno is reading a little low (or others are reading a little high) is of no importance.

I agree, the car sounds and runs great. Very happy with it. I was also told most cars loose 20% from the crank to the wheels so some of the numbers are quite high if you follow that.

I like that kind of math. He gets 418 RWHP. You tune it and that gets him to 428 RWHP. Now add the 60 RWHP gain and you are at 480. Go to a Dynojet and there is your 500 RWHP. Who said its hard to get to 500.
Now a good set of LONG TUBE HEADERS and you are at 520 RWHP. chuck
the LS3 HEADS and get a set of TF 235's and a FAST102 and you could be at 550 RWHP. Haven't seen anyone run that COMBO but waiting to
see who will be the first. I think HINSON did it and got to 540.

My Spin Monster cam goes in this weekend but I'm upgrading from a G6X1 cam so I'm curious to see the results.

A 57 HP gain from just a cam swap sounds pretty good to me.

When you see guys quote getting 500RWHP many things come into play but an important factor is that most of them are quoting numbers off of a Dynojet dyno. If you want to compare your numbers to those numbers, you'll need to to get new ones on a Dynojet. It is kind of a common denominator thing.

However, if your car meets your expectations, why bother?

I think it's going to be a tall order for me to hit 500rwhp with this cam, though. Best my car has done is 465rwhp with the G6X1 and I gained 45rwhp with the cam from just headers, intake, and tune.

Stock my car did 388rwhp so it's not like my car was low before all the mods.

Your numbers as a whole are low for a 6 speed LS3. Mine dynoed 419 rwhp 423 rwtq with longtubes/x pipe no cats, cai and tune. With my England Green Whiplash 2 cam and no other changes, dynoed 509 rwhp 456 rwtq. Maybe mines a freak, who knows but you cant argue with a 91 horsepower gain from a cam only. BTW, my intake and throttle body are untouched.

I still think its the mustang dyno because it runs and sounds great. All the others were done on a different dyno.
