Default Another HUD Install Thread

I have a 2006 Vette with the 2LT package. I did not feel like paying the big bucks for the 3LT because the only thing I wanted was the HUD. So I bought the HUD install kit from Partstaxi. Easy install. I did not take off the steering wheel, I did not take off the dash, I did not take off the center console. I used instructions from 2 different people.

These are the best instructions for doing the "cut the a/c duct" method:

http://forums.corvetteforum.com/c6-c...d-install.html

These instructions have a lot of information and you'll need them to do the electrical terminations:

http://keystonestatecorvetteclub.net...%20Rev%202.pdf

The hardest part is cutting the A/C duct. I used a Weller solder gun with a cutting tip. Don't worry about the cut being too wide , it's tight getting it back together even with the melted out material missing. I also used Gorilla tape to tape the duct back in. I cut the duct about 3" to the left of the sensor. Any closer to the sensor and there is something in the way behind the duct.

Also, I disconnected the left side of the bezel (dimmer switch) and swung it over the the right (I didn't disconnect the connectors on the right side).

Took me 3 hours for the complete mod. The unit worked great right off the bat.

Is it worth it, I'd say 100% yes. It's very visable on the standard windshield and it's really nice having all that info in front of you.

So, the standard winshield works just fine at night and during the day? I was thinking about doing this myself. I think you have convinced me, thanks!

No problem. I live in the Phoenix area and we have plenty of sun right now. But even driving straight into the sun, it's fine. Do it, you'll love it.

In addition to the complete kit that Partstaxi sells, you'll need to get a 6 mm J nut (speed nut) and a 1" long 6mm bolt. I used blue loctite on the 6mm bolt to make sure it doesn't come loose. Also pick up some 6mm washers (three total) along with 6 of the red electrical taps. The kit is supposed to come with a couple of locking 6mm nuts, but mine did not, so you may have to pick up a couple of those. A warning, the front leg where you put the speed nut is not big enough for a 6mm bolt, so just take a 1/4" drill and drill out the hole.

Have fun!
