Default Should I be worried?

Here's how much oil my catch can has in it after 1100 miles, should I be worried? My oil level is fine on the dipstick, I estimate this to be around 4.5oz.

Pardon the pictures, I didn't have anything handy to measure legitimately, but I figured everyone would be familiar with the size of the container I picked.

This is from an 05 LS2 with 57k miles.

I have the Mike Norris catch can (hooked up the right way I presume (crankcase to top, intake manifold to bottom).

Thanks for your time!

I guess it would depend on how you are driving most of the time to determine if that is a lot of oil. If you are just daily driving and not getting much into the throttle, then I would think it is quite a bit. If you do quite a bit of "spirited" driving above 4000 RPM, then it may be quite normal.

My theory is pretty simple. Under normal driving, 4 0unces or so caught in the can between oil changes (3-4000 miles) is liveable. For cars driven harder or "spirited" as I call it, then a quart between oil changes can be acceptable. The harder you drive, the more potential for oil use. This is mainly due to the low tension rings used from the factory.

Hope this helps.

Hi Tim,

I suck as a salesman and am hard pressed to say you need one. I will say that there are several stock and modded Vettes out there that do get some amount of oil into the intake tract due to what I believe is not enough factory baffling in the valve covers and valley covers in conjunction with the low tension rings. Any oil getting into the intake and eventually the combustion chamber will cause a power loss over time.

This unit will keep the oil from entering the intake manifold. You can check out my pieces more at:

Thanks.

Tim it wouldnt be a bad idea. You can tell if your getting oil in by removing the Tb and examining the inside of the intake. Run your fingers on the inside of the intake and feel for oily residue. It wont hurt performance to install one (catch can) and I've heard good things about Mikes catch can although I have not had one in my hands.

Better in the catch can than the engine. If you drove it like you stole it, that isn't much, IMO.

I would get the braided hose option. It may not work better, but does look cool.....

Thanks for the info. I agree that it is better in the can than in the motor, but I just thought it was a bit much for only 1100 miles.

My car may spend around 3 mins a week over 4k...too much traffic. Most of my miles are stop and go and highway miles.

Glad I got the can if the car was dumping that much into the intake.
