Default What is this on my VIS:

Obtained a VIS on my car and found out why I did not get a recall on my C6 for the roof. It seems it was replcaed in 08 under warranty. Now I do have a question. What is "F2123 carrier assembly rear differential R&R"? I do know what a diff is...my question is do they replace the complete carrier assy and why would they? When I say complete carrier does that include ring and pinion, spider gears? The complete chunk or is is just the carrier for these items? It is a 2006 btw.

Thanks,
Tracy

R&R means remove and replace so I would assume they removed the old one and replaced it with a new one. As to why, you will have to find out what dealership did the warranty work and contact them. They should have a record of the service performed, especially since it is warranty work.

Most likely the previous owner either grenaded it and replaced it under warranty or the dealer did not know that a simple fluid change would fix the chatter in the rear diff so they replaced the entire carries assembly. If you PM me your VIN, I can see if I can dig up anymore info like the part number replaced or if there were any notes in the system from the dealer or rep.

Yep, good with what R&R meant...I was mainly interested in what was R&R exactly. Is labor code F2123 a catch all for everything or something specific.

F2123 Is a GM code for a specific "labor operation" it means exactly what you said; F2123 - CARRIER ASSEMBLY - REAR DIFFERENTIAL - R&R. That is as specific as it gets with out the actual Work Order from the dealer that did the service work.

Guess I'll never find out for sure. I have no idea who did the work.
