Default cam swap

hey everybody im gonna do a cam swap on 06 m6. i wanna do the install myself and i keep hearing different things about this. my questions are do i need to upgrade the the whole valve train and do i need to change the timing change? if anybody else has any knowledge that would help it would be much appreciated. thanks

I guess it could possibly depend on your cam, but I would expect to upgrade the valvetrain at least as far as a spring upgrade goes.

i recommend a new front seal. i reused the old one and i think its leaking.. oil on the bottom of the oil pan.. GMPN 12561244

Yeah your gonna need new valve springs and pushrods are probably a good idea too. Your valve springs are matched to your cam. They get used to being pushed down to that certain area and if you but a bigger lift cam in it will push them down further and possibly break them. Your factory ones have a pretty low limit as well. Gaskets and seals are a must as well but are fairly cheap. You might as well throw an u.d pulley on there as well since youll be in there.

thanks for info i know i need to do springs and retainers but why the push rods and the pulley idea never even thought about it that good idea so thanks for the heads up

well the push rods you have might not be the corect length and it's a good idea to go with hardened ones as you are putting more pressure on them as well.

valvesprings, pushrods, good aftermarket single row timing chain are a must when doing a cam swap. A timing chain dampener is a good upgrade as well. I'm gonna tackle a cam swap on my blown 07 vette this winter. Stock idle sucks!

pretty easy swap, get the air line fitting that goes in the spark plug hole for changing the springs
