I feel like a bonehead for asking this which may be a simple fix to do but worried about the effects of possibly damaging such a delicate electrical part. I have been having this weird accellaration surging or cutoff which only happens if I do a full throttle run. The car feels like it cuts off and spudders. My first thought was bad plugs but that was not the issue. I have read many threads where a dirty MAF was the fix so I will try that also. Before I start this I need to know what to clean and what not to touch and how to do so. I have searched but no actual pics and instructions on how to do this correctly. Anyone can supply some info and how and what to clean for this. I was also thinking or cleaning anything around the MAF while I am at if need be or am I getting ahead of myself? I have a manual 05 stock with only a west coast corvette dual flow intake and SLP exhaust.
I have not yet done it on my C6, but have on my other cars. For the TB, I use "Top Engine Cleaner," not to be confused with carb cleaner. Spray it in there and then wipe around the butterfly with a rag ensuring it moves freely when you're done. If you removed it and disassembled you could probably clean it easier/better.
As far as the MAF, I use rubbing alcohol on a q-tip, just lightly getting the wire(s). No pressure is needed, just a soft touch.
I honestly can't remember if it did or not. I know this sounds crazy to say but it's one of those things I have always had an issue with. I still have the stock intake and maybe I shoud swap it back on and see. I have reads threads where an intake can cause this but I am not sure I understand why this is happening only under hard accelleration. Dave is there a relation to an intake swap with hard accelleration hesistation?
I used spray carb cleaner on my MAF to try and cure a rough idle (before I read this thread) and did not have any issues afterward.
Should the MAF not be cleaned periodically?

I don't believe there is any scheduled maintenance on the MAF. I don't think the manufacturer advises anyone messing with it if it's doing its job.
If you suspect it is gunked up, its cheaper to try a cleaner than to buy a new one. One of my other cars is a Mercedes ML55 with a 5.5L V-8. About 5 years ago, the Bosch MAF was acting up and the engine suddenly would not run right so figured it out that it was the MAF. I bought a new one for about $280 via the internet. Wished I would have tried the cleaner first.
