Default Oil Filter for LS7

What's the best oil filter that I can buy "off the shelf" ?? It does me no good to look for a particular filter that is not stocked on shelves at the local auto parts store....I was looking for the AC/Delco UPF48R filter that is supposed to be required for my Z06 but no body has one?? They have the PF48's, just not the other one and I'm told that Z06 must have that specific filter....a LS3 can use the PF48 OR UPF48R....but Z06 MUST have the latter.

So any Z06 owners or anyone w/knowledge which filters can be used for LS7's? I appreciate it....Tim

I have a Grand Sport (same UPF48R filter as a Z06) and I ordered a few off the internet. They were like $10 each off the web. Search google shopping for UPF48R, but I think I got mine and some other factory GM stuff from GMpartshouse.com . The Delco UPF filters are really heavy and solid compared to the dimensionally identical PF48. They are black too.

Mobil1, K&N or the new Bosch filter will do the job, and you can pick them up at any auto parts store. Currently, AutoZone has 5 qt jugs of Valvoline(which meets GM specs) and a Mobil1 filter for $27.99. That's what I use on my 09 Z06. I would also use the Delco UPF48R(same filter as the three above mentioned filters) but they are too much of a hassle to get. No one carries the UPF48R in stock and who wants to pay shipping every time you want to change your oil.

I buy the UPF48R from the dealer. The times he didn't have one in stock, he'd order it and it would be there the next day. So, I order a few at a time. The M1 filter is also a great filter and available at most auto parts stores.

The AC Delco UPF48R and the Mobil 1 113 filter are identical in every way. They are made by the same manufacture.

I wanted K&N but they did not carry those. (Autozone and a few other National auto parts companys are in this area.) Do you know the part number for Mobil?

You must have the dry sump? This is the reason for the requirement and if you use the PF48 it WILL have consequences...like blowing out from what I've read. Regular LS3's can use it, I know that because my last Vette was a LS3....the high pressure oil pump from what I've read on the dry sump will blow out the regular/common filters. Read that on this site as a matter of fact....it was a horror story from a guy who had his oil changed at the dealership and they used the regular filter and it blew it out.

For your Z06, the Mobil1 M1-113 or the K&N HP-1017 is needed.

Thanks, the same back at you. Our weather forecast is for ice and snow until around noon. I'm going to then head over to the Golden Corral around 2 PM for lunch. Many people knock them but they put on a fabulous traditional Thanksgiving Day spread. Hand carved turkey and ham, dressing, candied yams, green bean casserole, corn, etc pumpkin pie. I'm hungry already. Sure beats my typical PB&J at home.

Have a nice one.

Good info. I haven’t reached the point of where I need an oil change, but now I know.
