Cat's or Not?????
I tried searching but didn't find a whole lot on the subject. I'm going to get LG superpro 1 3/4" headers and I was wondering if I should go with cats or not? I just want everyones opinion on the matter. I live in NJ but my car is registered in AL so no smog tests for me. Is there any benefit to running W/O cats vs. with them? Will this make my exhaust blacker or dirtier than with cats? Will this do anything for performance? Lastly, I will be getting a tune but will there be any effects on the engine? Thanks for all the help guys

Let me put it this way, the difference on the dyno of my car with and without cats was approximately 1 HP. And that was the most difference I saw.
I've got Borla headers, which are basically the same thing as LG headers since they used to manufacture all of the LG stuff.
I'd rather be environmentally responsible and run the cats given the absolutely negligible performance difference between running with or without them.
And honestly my car stunk to high hell without them, while I was waiting to get them welded up.

with what you might see on a dyno, but i said faster.... real 1/4 mile racing, and tuned just for that, and don't forget the weight savings, and even a better weight transfer,

is that each, clogged or unclogged i would think it would be more then 1 hp, maybe 1 hp from certain metalic highflow cats to none, but 5-6 from stock cats to none

That's what I heard. Enough reason right there to get them.
Also, after your car is tuned up you will hardly smell anything at all. I've never had anyone complain about a smell (or even notice one) and have talked with my tuner on more than one occassion about the catless situation and how neither of us understand what everyone complains about.
Once the car is properly leaned out they seem to smell just fine.

Ok get caught for what??? Hello, I register my car in AL, no smog tests. Not to mention my fiance's dad was the old police cheif and mayor in the town we live in. I think I'm safe. Who the hell pissed on your steak tonight? It takes a real *&%& to go wishing tickets and fines on someone for doing something so trivial.

I had kooks and borla stingers on mine. First, I was running no cats. Even after the tune, the gas smell was pretty bad and my exhaust tips were impossible to keep clean. I went ahead and switched out the x-pipe for the one with high-flow cats....no more smell, no more black tips and I couldn't notice any difference in power AT ALL.

Thanks for the input. I don't really care about the performance if I only lose just a very small amount. I don't want the smell or difficulty of keeping the tips clean.
Your exhaust tips will always be black and the gas smell will be pretty heavy.
That is exactly what my tuner said. The exhaust would definitely be noticeable. Cruising along the beach, top off, & in South Florida heat would ruin the day for sure.

Exactly my thought. The gain of no cats is negligible compared to high-flow cats.
FWIW: Next week, I'm having my GS worked on. LG longtubes, x pipe, high-flow cats are among the items being done.
