Default 2006 C6 z06 help! please

I just bought a 2006 z06 from van chevy in scottsdale arizona and I'am having some issues. I got the bumper to bumper warranty so I'm going to take it in today after work, but I was hoping someone could help me so I kinda know what the problem might be and not get the run around from the dealer.

In first gear if im just using the clutch to move at like 6 miles an hour it almost sounds like the transmission makes a terrible grinding sound when I turn (idk if its the tranny but the sounds coming from towards the back of the car). It only makes the sound while I'm turning, if i just go straight the grinding sound isnt there.

Secondly, the car doesnt want to go into gear sometimes, It's refused 1st gear a couple times at a light and i have to put it in 2nd then first for it to slide in, and many times it wont go into reverse unless I shift into 2nd and then reverse pops in easily.

Lastly, when starting in first gear but going decently slow, like 10-15mph accelerating at around 1k-1.5krpm I hear a weird sound coming from the engine, almost like the cam is loose or something, (again, not sure if its really the cam but the sound is coming from the engine and goes away once i hit around 15-20mph) It's like a rattling sound.

Please help!

The motor noise could be the oil tank o-ring is broken causing the tube in it to rattle.
The refusing gear could be a clutch issue. Have you flushed your clutch fluid out yet?

Rear end noise is probably the normal operation of the rear limited slip differential: there is a tech service bulletin about it...

I have a 2006 Z06 and alot of what you are describing sounds fairly normal. If you are lugging just after you let the clutch out in first gear they all make a slight, gravelly sound. It's coming from the torque tube and is normal. However this should happen whether you are turning or going straight.

Both my Z06 and my earlier Z51 6 speed would occasionally require that I find second gear while stopped before it would go into first or reverse. My friend's 07 Z06 is the same. Hard to tell without hearing your noise in person but it may be nothing. How many miles on the car and how was it treated before you bought it?

You failed to mention the milage on the car, but assuming it is more than say 30K, the first thing I would do is have the transmission fluid replaced. The fix for the diff noise when turning is also a fluid swap. The dealer should be aware of the rear diff TSB.

cars got 20k miles on it. I dropped it off at the dealer today, he drove it a bit and was convinced that the grinding sound was because of the differential fluid. As for the gears, he said that my transmission was whining a bit and that he would take care of it. Lastly, the rattley sound i guess is normal and from the torque tubes as you guys stated

thanks, load off my mind!

ok so this is what is being warrantied out....

1. 1-2 trans syncro
2. blocking rings for 1-2 syncro
3. engine sealant
4. clutch slave cylinder
5. clutch fluid
6. rear diff fluid

but I gotta point this out in good faith....anyone living in arizona....DO NOT BUY FROM VAN CHEVY.....they are f@$%ing scum bags......after being told I would be taken care of under my warranty I receive a call from the service guy telling me that I would have to pay $850 for the maintenance and that this was not covered under warranty....wondering why I would pay them almost a grand in service on a car that I bought 2 weeks ago, I went down there and after much run around the price magically dropped to $400 and I STILL didnt know what exactly they were gonna do ...finally he showed me and among other useless things a car with 20k miles on it DOESNT need was things such as a fuel injection flush tire rotation and alignment, and a throttle body service.....now I'm only 20 years old but I know my stuff and made him only change what was warrantied as for the rest I will have xtreme motorsports take a look and see what needs to be done and have any maintenance not covered by warranty done by them.

Van Chevy has been **** listed in my book, which is 2 bad because I really did plan on purchasing many more vehicles through them.

This sucks, but hopefully you get it resolved.

Did you not test drive this car before buying it? Also, you really should find out if the warranty you got is through GM or an aftermarket through the dealer.

And as far as tire rotation, I think Ginny was referring to the staggered wheels on the Vette....can't rotate them....

i know u cant rotate them lol....thats the whole point....but he wanted to charge me $109.99 for such a service.

I did test drive it, unfortunantely I didnt let it roll off of the clutch in first gear and do slow turns to be able to hear that differential sound. You know how it is "omgz z06 must speeeeed"

If this is a GM Warranty - Call the zone office right away. GM has targeted the southwest to reshuffle some of it Chevy dealerships. You should be getting a survey inquiry from Chevy about your recent visit to the dealership. They really take these things seriously now. A bad response impacts the service fee that the dealer receives from GM.

If this is a non-GM warranty, contact the Arizona Insurance Commissioner about a bait and switch complaint. That should get someones attention at the warranty company.

Also, you may want to contact the local district attorney. If this is a third party warranty, the dealership may being trying to collect from you while being paid by the warranty. If so, this is could easily become a mail or wire fraud investigation. The zone office will take notice of that in a hurry.

In the 80's when 3rd party warranties were being offered by insurance companies thru auto dealers, the claim refusals and buyer grief rubbed off on GM, and it wasn't unusual for a zone manager to tell a franchise they had 120 days to sell there store. I understand this policy has been reactivated to bring dealerships in line with GM policies!

Throttle body service? What is that? There arent any serviceable parts or adjustments.

An alignment is OK but it doesnt justify charging another 300 for an injector cleaning (additive in the gas tank) or a tire rotation (reversing left/right tires). I dont think the s/c runflats are directional.

Last, if you didnt tell them to do these service items, you dont have to pay for them.

If they force the issue, pay by credit card and dispute the charges after you get your car back. Tell the credit card company the tires cant be rotated and there is nothing to be serviced on a TB. Tell them you paid because they wouldnt give you your car back unless you did.

You will prevail. Find another place for warranty work.
