Default Harmonic Balancer

I had a squeek coming from the front of my car. I opened the hood and the harmonic balancer is wobbling. Is this something that is a hard replacement?
What parts are involved! Please help!! I am going to HP sales on Wednesday and I will bring it up to them also...

Thanks.

It's a pretty big job...steering rack has to come out to get the balancer off.

IIRC, I've seen a few people posted that it can be done in 3 hours or so. I remember someone posting his local shop did it for $150 or thereabouts and several of us were very surprised by the low price.

That time doesn't assume any damage caused by wobbling; just a normal swap.

I already took it to Horsepower Sales. They do all the work on my car. When I told them was was happening, they basically said everything that Chuck Cow's thread said (see above).

We are doing an underdrive pulley (might as well get the couple of extra horses. It will be ready (with the Fusions that were being put on anyway) on Wednesday!! UGH!! Mo Money Mo Money Mo Money!!! I was thinking of doing a cam while they were there, but did not want to slap an extra 800-1000 on it (springs, etc.).

I guess, other that the pain to my wallet , problem will be solved!!!

No it doesn't; it simply needs to be moved out of the way.

Yeah, mine was replaced for $150 about 1.5 weeks ago...it's not that hard if you know how to do it

Hey man... Sorry about your mishap....

Be sure that the pulley is actually loose? Has it moved forward or is the crank bolt coming out?

All of the factory balancers have a slight wobble to them. I've seen many that looked bad but, really weren't.

Thing is, if you're gonna have someone change it...I would just get an underdrive pulley and some new belts....

And don't forget a NEW CRANK BOLT AND SOME LOCTITE!

Chuck, that is exactly what is being done, I figured I can always use a few more horses anyway. I just wasn't ready to shell out the bucks to get a cam. The will be doing the torque converter and gears in May.

Sorry I missed you when you were in Coral Springs. I am pretty busy this time of the year!! I drove over there at about 4:30 on Saturday and you were already gone!! Oh well!!!

thanks for your help! It was your thread (see above) that let me understand what was going on!!

There is about one minute difference in the amount of time it takes to "move it out of the way" vice pull the rack out of the car...I've done it once or twice...last time was yesterday

I don't consider a 3 hour a job a "big job"...so I figured removing it must take a lot of additional work.

Personally, Changing a crank pulley is one of my least favorite jobs...

Second to changing the fuel pump on a C6!

3 hours ain't bad....sometimes a bit longer, but moving the rack is a pest cause they put it dead center in the way!

Not my favorite job.... I'd rather pull a tranny!

Is this harder on a Z51 because of the coolers?
