Default wheel offset question

ordered my ruff 281s and the wheel shop called me and asked me to bring the car in. they had different wheel offset size they didnt know which ones to order. so they bolted a few rims out and found that 38mm offset is what works. i have a z51 o6 vert are they ordering the right offset?

Offset is a function of wheel width and 38 isnt right for stock wheel sizes. Stock fronts are +56 and stock rears are +79.

The problem with most aftermarket wheels for the C6 is they error on the safe side and the wheels stick out of the fender.

he took several wheels with different offests and showed me the best one would be 38 because it didnt stick out too far past the fender

and when a tire is on it, it will hit the fenders and crack them, and if it doesn't, it will throw enough road debris sand and stones that your fenders and even doors will have chips, spinmonster told you the correct offsets 56 front 79 rear, i posted the offset calculator, your wheel shop is not capable to do the job, they just want to make the sale

Wheel offset is not a function of wheel width...wheel offset is just the distance from the center of the rim to the flange of the wheel. It's possible to have one 12" rim and one 4" rim that have the same exact offset.

the offset could be the same with a different width rim. what i was trying to say was clearances would change, inner and outer, so use the calculator

Won't stick out "TOO FAR" - does not sound like the wheel guy knows what he is doing. Just wants to sell you a set of wheels and is compromising....

True, and I acknowledge my verbal error.

If you hold the outside edge of the wheel fixed with relation to the hub, adding width changes the offset to maintain that. The offset has to grow because the hub's dist. to the fender is fixed but the center of the wheel moves in.

I make the distinction because guys think that 79mm is the correct offset for the stock rim and then mistakenly think that a 19x11 with 79mm is the correct offset. It isnt. The added width of the wheel in that case being wider, moves where the center of the wheel in. Hence a 19x11 will call for a 91-92mm offset to still have the same distance from the hub to the fender edge as the stock wheel.

First time you've mentioned that.

With a 38mm offset the fronts will be ok and the rim will sit out 3/4" more than OEM. On the rear you need 60mm or higher to fit under the fenders tot eh outside. There's plenty of room to the inside.
