Hi All -- my dilemma:
I want to upgrade the ponies in my 6 speed GS. Am thinking about the ZR1 cam, headers,Beehive and tune. However, being that I would be close to 4k already should I just add a edelbrock sc instead. This is street only, some mild spirited driving at times. As always, I turn to my brothers on the forum for great advise. Thanks in advance, Bob
If the supercharger is within your budget....no question about it!
for the street although I love the sound of my exhaust with my cam. A supercharger sounds like there is a vacuum cleaner under the hood. My opinion of course.
Throw a 'charger on it. Power = fun. To get near the fun with cam and bolt ons, you'll need way more cam than the one you're considering. Also, the bigger cam comes with drivability and fuel eco compromises that you need to factor in. I did the cam thing first on my LS3. Big mistake. Way happy now with Maggie.

It depends on what you want to achieve. I would guess that you'll get 60-80 RWHP from the mods above. For somewhat more than twice the cost you can get at least 100 more than that from the supercharger.
A factor to consider is which is more fun for you. A Corvette with 450 RWHP is extremely lively on the street. A Corvette with 550 RWHP demands a lot of attention at WOT. It will also spin the tires a lot more, even in 3rd.
I drive my LS2 Corvette only on the street. It has "only" 460/425 and it accelerates so rapidly on my around-town routes that I don't want any more power. I'd like a bit more traction for control but then it would accelerate even faster. I know that this is speaking heresy but, for me, it's true. I rarely get to hear the engine at full song because, I'd be spinning the tires or going 50 MPH over the speed limit.
An alternative view might be: Get the supercharger and some slicks and have at it! You'll have a blast with the cam, the supercharger or no changes at all. There is no downside.
If you're not planning on doing a SC down the road, all the labor for a cam install choosing the ZR-1 cam would be a bit wasteful IMO. The cam is very close to a stock cam, you might want to consider the exhaust and a tune and then decide what else you want after you get used to the power from the exhaust/tune. I am not a big fan of CAI on LS3 cars.
The ZR-1 cam might be a good choice if you wanted a modest cam for the time being and were planning to add a supercharger later. Otherwise if you're planning on staying NA, there are better nice drivable cam options.

I don't think mine sounds like a vacuum cleaner....
I ve always planned on putting a SC on after I pay off my car. But the opportunity came and I decided to do the Cam now...
I dont have new numbers but the top end is built nice and ready for the SC if I decide later. If I do the math right Im gettign an additional 60 RWHP from my cam and tune.
Im still learnig how to drive this car with this new found power.
All I have to say is, I contemplated the same for my 2005, cam or SC. After reading tons of posts, getting headaches from the back and forth on which is better, I went with an ECS blower. I just took it out today for the first time since getting it back, and OH MAN I COULD NOT STOP DRIVING! It drives like it is 100% stock until you WOT, then hold on! My PS2s hold up to it pretty well in 3rd gear and up, and 2nd gear is great too but I have to feather the throttle a bit. All in all, I wish I did two things when I first got my car;
1. Bought new tires to replace the crappy hard rock Goodyears
2. Brought the car right to ECS to have their blower put on.
All great info. Seems like everyone is happy with the SC. Now, which one and who has the best pricing?
We are running a special on Andys A&A Supercharger package. Complete install and dyno tune @ $6,599. We are right around the block and offer great service at a great price.
