For those of you who have R&Rd your IM...did you replace the cover on the IM? Does this thing hold heat in? Or keep heat out, or quiet things down? If it will hold heat in I'll remove it. Anyone know? I think Jeremy Formato suggests leaving it off. FAST doesn't use one.
You talking about the fuel rail covers (FRC) that say "Corvette" on them? I have no first hand knowledge but in other threads people have said that, yes, they hold heat in.
I saw one post that said your temps would go down 5 degrees or so from removing them.
No, not them. There is a cover right on the IM that has insulation or padding or sound insulation on the underside, between the IM and this cover thingy.
I have no idea what it does I did put mine back on but I don't see any harm in leaving it off if it's just there for sound control and I'm sure Joe knows what he is talking about but I do wonder what it really does lol.
It definetly holds heat in. It was put there in 08 on the LS3 to quiet the valve train noise. I removed mine and I did not here any difference in the noise level.

^ Yep, it's just used to quiet things down, any valvetrain noise that would resonate through the intake. When I ported my LS3 intake, I sold the FRC's and the Insulation cover on Tech for good money actually.
I didin't want it to run any hotter than it needed to.
Not to mention, all 3 of those items weigh 2-3lbs, every little bit helps-
I left it out per Bob at Peak Speed who did the porting.
I will be re-tuning and re-dynoing since adding the stage 2 ported IM and ported TB. I'll post up results probably within a week. Depends on how quick my tuner can get to me.
If you tuned your ECU and then ported the Throttle Body and Intake manifold,, how much do you think it would effect the tune?
I other words,, would a re-tune be necessary to get the most out of the mod?
Thanks for the pictures. Excellent work! I enjoy porting also. I do my own FAST 90 work now.

The ported TB doesn't really need adjustment in reality but the ported intake would benefit from a follow up tune. I was changing a cam durring the same time and I knew it, so I just planned on having it all adjusted with the new cam tune.
I wouldn't worry, just wait until you add another item, the get it tuned as a package, IMHO

Nice job.
I see you used JB Weld to seal the post holes I've used JB Weld so I know it cures hard sticks well to most substrates. But wonder if it can last long term in this environment of heat cycling, vibration, and oil.
Anyone out there that works with plastics and can give some input as to what would be a better product for mending plastic manifolds?
I think Spinmonster would know about the JBweld working or not. He did so many Fast 92 Corvette mods to avoid hacking the firewall. He tried quite a few 'glues' before settling on one the was impervious.
