Default 3.73 gear install

Does anyone have ballpark idea how much it would cost to install 3.73 gears in 2006 Z51?

Thanks!

I've heard the gears are fairly cheap ($300-$400) If you have the know how it wouldn't be a bad install. I however opened the rear up on my 03 Duramax and boy was I sorry. I didn't really know what I was doing and me and 2 of my college buddies tried to rebuild the rear end. 3 days later I was at a GM dealership with a $3k check for them to fix it.

For a manual I believe that it's roughly $1400.00 - $2000.00 or so (depending on options/shaft upgrades etc.) for everything.
Automatics are more than that.

The same as going up to 3.90s or 4.10s

I did the pumpkin swap with a DTE Stage II rear. I think it was $400 plus the cost of the rear and shipping.

I have been told from a reputable source there are many issues with the 3.73 ring and pinions, might look further into that before moving forward.

DTE Stage 2 cost me $1800 and change with my stock Diff. trade in. Then it has to be installed and the stock unit shipped.

RPM TRANSMISSIONS can do an excellent job. you already have an 06 rear, just do an gear upgrade exchange with them. if you think this is a do it yourself project, you might want to price the tools you WILL need to do this job. you might be suprised. they do good work and will stand behind the job. good luck

The gear sets are not holding up, setup perfectly they start to whine very early leading to premature failure. This was happening about a year ago I believe, I found out as I to wanted to do 3.73's.
I would contact RPM to see if they used this ratio and ask if they had any problems just to confirm, I have not talked with them about that specific gearset when I talked with them in person at the LSX shootout.

Installing your own gears is absolutely not a do it yourself job unless you have an experienced helper. Even some good mechanics have problems getting them dialed in. Later! Frank

Hey Tim,

Option for you: Order a built diff from RPM and have it shipped here. You drive over for a 2 day vacation and I install it in your car for free.

Another option: Fly me there.

Call me for other details.
