This has happened twice and it's very unsettling trying to quickly understand why I'm traveling slower than other traffic because the shift never happened. I now only use S-mode when I intentionally want to use the paddles.
Okay, on my 2011, the transmission will downshift progressively as the vehicle slows in both "D" and "S". In "D", it reverts to fully automatic mode after the paddles have not been used for a few seconds.

The downshifts occur at about the time you would expect them to, so there is never a time when it is in such a high gear that you couldn't get decent acceleration. I even tried once letting the transmission shift from 6th to 5th, then floored the throttle as soon as 5th engaged. It accelerated smoothly with no engine lugging or bucking, and probably about as quickly as most other typical vehicles would accelerate.

The seat feels pretty flimsy to be doing this. It feels easier to spread my knees and use them to hold me in place. Neither is a great solution, and if the 2012 seats are that much better, I'd be more than willing to upgrade to them.

I should have noted that I was in a lower gear (probably 2nd) and when accelerating with part throttle to get back to ~ 65 MPH, I expected a shift that never came. It just took a moment before I recognized what happened (the accidental paddle activation) and corrected for it.

Thanks,

The stock WOT shifting levels for a 5>6 are set at 169 mph/5000rpm's.
