The Z06 is more than a suspension package, so not really sure of your question. I have Z51 because I was to cheap to buy a Z06. In 2006 when I bought mine, you could get a Z51 at invoice and a Z06 was list plus whatever the dealer could get away with.
i know that the Z06 package is more than just suspension, i was questioning which suspension is better overall... the Z51 package suspension or the Z06's. i'm planning a Factory Five GTM build, and i'm not sure which suspension setup to go with on it.
I own a z-51, but have never driven a Z. I would assume that the Z06 suspension is going to be better for a race application/ stiffer ect. It would only make sense...

Depends on what you are going to do with the car.
If you are going to race the car, or use it on the track there are much better solutions in the aftermarket than through the factory suspension upgrades.
If you have a base C6 now and are just looking for some upgrades to the car for street use, start with some shocks and sway bars. Bilstein makes a very good set of direct replacements and there are a number of bars you can go with, right up to our G1 package.

In taking a few minutes and looking at what you need to source for a GTM kit car build according to their website, it appears that you're looking for C5 control arms, bushings, spindles, bolts, and the braking systems for these vehicles. Looking specifically only at those systems, the Z06 and Z51 are the same. The pickup points and lengths are the same, the calipers and rotors are the same (with the exception of caliper color), and the spindles are the same. The website mentions that the kit does come with Koni coilovers, which I'm sure have specifically designed mounts for the GTM chassis.
The differences between C5 Z06 and Z51 suspension systems overall were minor changes to spring rates and dampers, but according to their website you're not going to use either the leaf springs nor the stock dampers if you're doing a GTM Kit Car build. So for your specific application, the Z06 and Z51 are the same. Find a donor car with components in good shape and build from there!
Good luck with the build! The GTM Kit looks incredibly fun on track!

I have a Z06, a stock suspension but modded 05'C6 coupe, (see sig below) and my girl has a stock Z51 coupe. She and I both agree that my modded 05' coupe gives the best of both worlds when it comes to ride and handling because of one key difference, the softer tranverse springs.

If not considering an aftermarket coil over system, then the C6Z suspension would be a better option IMO as the GTM is light and has wide tires like the C6Z, so the spring, shocks and larger sway bar would be better I imagine. Good luck on the build, I'd love to do one someday if I get time.
awesome info! i appreciate all the help. I came into a decent amount of money to start investing in the Custom Shop i want to start, i have about 3 years left in the army, and then 2 years at UTI, (auto tech, and auto body) then hopefully i'll be able to open the shop.
The GTM is going to be a show piece for the mechanical and paint work that i'm going to be doing once the shop opens.
