The Mobil 1 got dark after 300 miles. No engine tear down needed to see that. Being a dealer for amsoil is only for convenience-I don't sell it retail. I live in an area where dealers are hard to find and why pay them full retail.

Glass had this in a post -"If you like Amsoil, that's great. Just don't post untrue negative comments about another oil in a sad attempt to make your oil choice seem like the next coming of Christ."

I did not post an untrue or negative comment about Mobil 1. I said clearly that I was not knocking Mobil 1 just didn't like how it got dark so fast.

Just giving another "BS testimonial".
I hate it when people come to the Tech/Performance forum and relate biased personal experiences and give their BS opinions so I guess we have a lot in common. And just for the record, I never bashed you...just your ideas/comments. If I had wanted to bash you, I would have said something like "Somehow you think people should leave their intelligence aside and follow whatever you say as the ultimate gospel truth."

No matter how many times you say you aren't knocking Mobil 1, the fact of the matter is you did. Just because you preface a statement with a disclaimer does not give you free rein to say whatever you want. You can't walk up to somebody and say: "Not to be mean, but you're stupid."

The fact of the matter is oil turning dark means it's doing its job so maybe your Amsoil isn't working so well. Seriously, Google "why engine oil turns dark" and educate yourself. Here's a few links to get you started:

The last two posts especially.

You might want to consider buying this book to further your education.

Once again, this is the Tech/Performance forum where technical correctness is critical...don't take it personal when somebody challenges your BS or corrects you.

I was an Amsoil dealer for several years and was happy with it, but I ran into a Royal Purple dealer and their organization which impressed me with the knowledge base they had. I switched and have been using RP on all my vehicles for about 15 years and have been very impressed with its performance. I just switched out the diff. oil on my 05' Coupe (RP Max. 75W90Wt.) which had the dreaded clicking at low speeds and then did my figure 8's and noise is pretty much gone.

Ok, I went to the links, read about oil darkness and what I read suggests some oils darken sooner that others based on their additives, etc. Thanks and I see no need to beat a dead horse so no more on that subject.
Since you are way more knowledgeable on this subject than I am would you please tell me (and other forum users) which full synthetic oil is the most advanced and best for an 05 Vette. My Vette useage, in particular, relate to what you suggest-I do not race it, I don't drive it when the outside temp is lower that 45 degrees, I have never spun the tires(hard to believe but true) and generally drive it on long highway trips. I put about 3,000 miles on it last year. I am open to changing from my current oil if there is truly one that beats it in all or most of the common industry testing categories. Thanks

Glass Slipper is pretty knowledgeable. But not always. Transmission servicing for one.

It sounds like you are having good results with Amsoil too. I am not a fanatic about it-I just have a lot of confidence in it and love only changing the oil once a year.

the black stuff is carbon.
Changing the oil often to remove this and keep the deposits as low as possible is more important than worrying about what brand to use.

bottom line - use a 30 weight oil that is synthetic and dont wait for the dic to tell you when to change it out - oil with life still left to it can still hold carbon which will form deposits over time

a filter is 3 to 5 bucks
5qt M1 5w30 is as cheap as 20 bucks at some places

for roughly 30 dollars a month and 30 min of time you can keep your engine clean and you can stop worrying about what oil provides the "best performance"

The ONLY oil Ive seen that is "high performance" is mobil 1 racing. they sell a 0w30 and it will cost you roughly 100 bucks for an oil change. It has 1700 to 1800 ppm for the zinc and phosphorus and has viscosity qualities of a thicker oil for extend hard runs. Its not recommended for the street because you cant run it with cats since it will mess them up with the high additive levels.
