it is a big valve, GM does not use the titanium valves because they are cheap. they use them because when you spin a 2.25 valve up that high, and do not want to use a monster spring, you need a light valve to keep things moving and not bouncing.. if for some reason you feel the need to replace the factory valves, they need to be titanium

Not going over 8000 somehow minimizes the potential for problems? Spend the extra few dollars and do it right.

Ditto on the above....Ferrea have a complete range with springs, retainers, and can do custom as well:

http://www.ferrea.com/domestic.php

Probably just call them, tell them what you need to do, and they'll give you their advice.
If you like what you hear your onto a winner.

I can totally hear you saying that "old man"

Del West also make really nice valves. You get what you pay for.

If you buy the best, you only cry once. As the saying goes.

Good luck on your build.
