Default How do you replace a windshield cowl?

Hey guys,

I recently purchased a new windshield cowl because my old one would make a horrible vibration noise at higher speeds. So before I went ahead with this project I wanted to ask how to properly go about removing and replacing the existing cowl with a new one. If anyone has any step by step knowledge about this project that they would like to share, it would be most appreciated. Thank you in advance for any help!

Its not that difficult. Remove the wiper arms (note which one goes to which side and how there referenced when home) Then pop UP the small pins for the plastic fastener rivits and extract the rivit plugs. Pip up the cowl.

Reinstall in reverse order.

Thanks BC for your reply, I thought it was going to be a more difficult procedure. Like a windshield cowl replacement for a C5, which is a 14 step job. Ill give it a whirl today , hopefully everything goes smooth. Thanks again.

Along with this, how are people securing the windshield cowls where they're loose against the glass? I have a feeling some of the rattle/vibration I'm hearing in my car at 3500ish rpms is due to the cowl being somewhat loose against the glass on the drivers side of the car.

A few forum members have mentioned using a silicone caulk and putting a bead line underneath the lip of the cowl, where it meets the glass. I am going to try this after installing the new cowl. Hopefully it will help prevent future problems.

That's basically what I was thinking about doing. I just wanted to be sure there wasn't some other preferred method first.

Thanks

Had the dealer replace the windshield cowl at 35,800 miles, just before the bumper to bumper warranty expired. It is not covered under the GMPP warranty. Had the car back in an hour. The original cowl had pulled back off the passenger side windshield just enough to cause wind vibration at high speeds. This occurred at 35,500 miles. It looks like an easy fix, remove windshield arms and a few molding screws at each end. If you have the replacement cowl, I would just change it.
Good luck
