I have a C6 - Z06 that sees a lot of track and so I just had a track alignment done. The specs came from "Pfadt's" website and call for 0 to -1/16th maximum toe (out) at the front, and -1/8th to -1/16th toe (out?) at the rear.
The alignment shop assumes that negative (-) means toe out on both ends, but I've never heard of toe out at the rear. Neither had they.
That's the way they aligned the car. Is this correct?
The rear oversteer is an adventure in most corners. Please help...
Toe-in, or positive toe, is defined as the front of the tires being closer together than the rear of the tires. Toe-out, or negative toe, is when the rear of the tires are closer together than the front of the tires.
Thanx "Rick T", if negative (-) toe means that the rear of the tires are closer together, then the rears are toeing out* which is the oposite of what logic says should be correct, and "AU N EGL"s track alignment. Easy to see why the car is so loose at the tail, and the front turns in so well.
I think I'll give 'Pfadt" a call just to confirm everything. They're a great good source for parts and information.
This may very well be why my suspension guy was confused when I showed him the Pfadt sheet. Everything I have every read says that the C6 like a little toe in. When my tech saw it, he went toe out?
Anyway for dual purpose this is what I run:
Front
Camber -1.6*
Caster, Max but equal
toe: .09 (toe in)
Note: I can flip my upper pins and I get 2.4 for camber and toe that is slightly out.
Rear
Camber -1.0*
Toe: 0.0
As I don't have a trailer yet I have to make tire selction prior to going to the track and the drive can be 400 miles round trip plus track time. Mostly autocross with a couple of HPDE thrown in. Currently the tire of choice for this are my Firestone runflats, don't laugh we had a really wet event and I beat everyone by 3 seconds or my R888's.
Rear
18x13 with 18x335/30
Camber -1.5*
Toe 1/16" OUT
Was wondering how you get away with toe out in the rear. My Z06 is very twitchy coming off from corners if I have 0 toe. Last time at the track I had 0 rear toe and had to crank in a flat turn on each side to get the back end to settle down and let me roll into the throttle the way I wanted to. I was running 285/35/18 Nitto NT05s in front and 335/35/19 in the rear. I can't imagine how high the pucker factor would have jumped if there had been toe out.
