Default Cam choice...help

I am looking to get a cam and was wondering what you guys thought I should go with. The car is a 2005 Auto with 3:42 gear, 3600 Yank, Z06 manifolds, midpipe, cats and Vararam. The car made 370rwhp on a dynojet dyno and 497rwhp on a 150 shot

You need to be more specific with what you are looking for in terms of drivability, lope you can live with and what you will be using it for (street driving, drag strip, etc).

There are literally hundreds of choices out there. I would suggest searching the forum for other results to help narrow your options.

I had a 228R TSP cam in my 2006 vette. I dont mind more lopey than that cam. I drive in mostly on the weekends and frequent the drag strip every other Wednesday

If you like TSPs grinds I'd look at their 233/239. It has made very good power and I believe it's on XER lobes, so nothing TOO radical.

Or give Pat G a call and have him spec you a custom cam to your mods and preferences.

Have you considered a ported FAST intake? On an LS2 it'll easily pick up 25rwhp and TONS of torque and power in the mid range (30+). The stock LS2 intake is junk. I would look into that before a cam, personally. Cheaper and makes for a really fun car in the typical 2.5k-4.5k driving range.

The extra midrange torque is going to show up in your 60' time as there is a nice gain right where that Yank stalls to.

Thanks guys! I havent looked into the Fast option. I had a 2006 vette a few years ago and I was into it more. Divorce took it and now im back in the game! I have a used Patrick G cam here from a buddy of mine but it seems a little radical. Here are the specs 235/243 620/623 114+2

I also just found a 228R 114 cam on my shelf

I asked Texas Speed and they said it would work. Seems a little radical to me but Im no expert

We are actually having a cam install special this month. You have the gears and converter to support a healthy cam, but the LS7 manifolds are going to limit the breathing capabilities. Feel free to contact me for the pricing and to discuss your goals more in depth.

Pat G specs his cams to your build and driving goals...that cam likely wouldn't be a great option for you.

It might be radical looking, but a lot of his cams come on the EPS lobes which aren't too abusive on springs.

If you turn your own wrenches, I'd be tempted to throw the 228 cam in. Certainly you can go bigger with your set-up, but that would give you a chance to get most of the way there and fund almost half the cost of the FAST manifold. 228 cam + FAST is going to be more than .5 on your NA ET. Down the road you can buy a bigger cam after you have the FAST and have some time on the set-up to better refine your goals.

If you have to pay for labor and tuning, I'd spend for the bigger cam and do it once.

I have a friend that turns wrenches cheap. I turn them but not for the price he charges. He is going to do the cam swap for $450 and degree it. I have hpt but I dont think Im going to tune it. Dyno retune for me is $300. What fast would be the one to get? I looked at a few of them. Thanks

A FAST 102 is your only option now.

Awesome

I'm about to put in a Pat G 238/242 110...can't wait myself Just waiting on the other parts to come in.

I dunno...because it is? FAST doesn't make anything else.

Unless he wants to buy a used one I guess, which is fine, but it's very hard to find them.

I assume you'll tune it for drivability. I'd borrow a wideband if possible and check your WOT A/F (on a private road of course. ).
