Default Differences in shifters?

What are the differences between the early C6 6 speed shifters and the 2008 and newer model?

Just get the MGW shifter and call it done. Do a search.

2008 and newer models have a different transmission. Must lower shifting effort than the transmissions in the 2005 to 2007 C6's. Clutch is lighter in the 2008+ as well.

I read awhile ago the 2008 z06 and up shifters are shorter than the 2005 - 2007 and have no vibration.

I have the MGW with the 08 tranny and it is a love/hate relationship. I like the shortness of the MGW shifts, but the increase in effort is not always welcome in city traffic. The MGW was a big improvement on the 2007 and earlier cars.

I sometimes think about pulling it out and putting the stock back in with cut down shaft or **** that lowers the height a bit.

Couldn't agree more with the above statement. I have an 08C6Z51 with over 500rwhp N/A and the MGW increased the joy of having that power dramatically. You can literally flick your wrist to shift, and the shifts are very positive. This should have been my first mod, it's inexpensive and increases the joy of the car exponentially.

I'm sure all these aftermarket shifters are great! I'm not looking to replace my shifter at this time. Just trying to find out the differences between the stock C6 shifters.

I like the stock shifter too.

The shifter box bushings tear over time, causing play in the shifter. You can either try to find a 06 Z06 shifter box with sold brass bushings like I have (and love), or, you can buy replacement bushings.

Mez had a great thread on here about the problem with the bushings, with diagrams etc....I just searched for his thread, but looks like he was banned for selling the bushings to people and his thread was deleted. That's too bad...it was due to his research that I checked my bushings and my shifter woes were cured. I can see them telling him to stop selling or pay the vendor fee...but to delete his great thread isn't cool IMHO. Thanks again Mez if you're still reading the Forum.

Sure hope he didn't get too rich selling those little bushings to forum members. That's really a shame. I understand rules are rules, but that seems like it's fairly petty.

My 2008 shifter is very smooth and feels great,I'm happy with it,but the one on the 99 is very hard. I was thinking of installing a C6 on the 99. I read a post that said I should install a newer C6 shifter instead of an earlier model. I'm not interested in the after market cause it seems they vibrate a bit and I've never driven a car with one,but have driven my C6 and like it.

I've got a spare c6 shifter. Used, but still good. I'll send it to you for free if you pay for shipping. You'll have to buy a ****....and they are kind of expensive.

Hit me up PM if interested.

I agree with you. A guy does a lot of research and provides it free to all of us - in many different threads, not just this one. What's he gonna make for these bushings? $5? I doubt he's making anything.

They wanted him to pay $275 a month to sell them. He refused so they banned him and deleted the thread.

I'm sorry about this rant, but this kind of short sighted treatment is what kills businesses. Just my humble opinion, and I'll probably get banned myself..but maybe someone with some business sense will read what I wrote and think about it...and put that thread back.

I'm walking on thin ice myself.Everytime I've complained about sellers on this forum, It gets deleted. I decided to stop purchasing, unless I know the seller from previous transactions.
