I hadn't thought of the greater surface area. AFA the magnets falling off, as a science teacher, I don't think they'll fall off. Usually it takes a large pull to remove them from anything ferrous. That's my experience, anyway. Thanks for the clarification.

The FilterMag folks claim 90lbs of magnetic pull force for these magnets. I know it takes alomost a herculean effort to pry mine off the filter at oil change time.
