Default 3rd gear notchyness

Just replaced worn out shifter box on my 05 C6 with the updated replacement box. It's great , no buzz or vibration. Did the shifter box alignment procedure. All gears are smooth but 3rd is still very notchy with factory shifter. The car only has 12000 miles and I changed to royal purple in the tranie. Is this normal ? By the way the original shifter box had the bushings totally torn up.

I had RP in my camaro and it was "thin feeling" very noticeable difference from GM fluid. Felt everything in the tranny much more through the shifter. Most people don't like the "feel" of RP. Had it in the diff too, noisy there also

Could you elaborate more on this? What do you mean "most people"? Reason I ask is I have just installed a rebuilt tran and put RP in there and Diff.

Tran is very notchy (though much nicer when properly warm) and there is substantially more gear noise on lift off than there was before.

Do you think a fluid swap may get me back where I would like to be? If so what would you recommend?

What I mean by "most people" is the 10+ people I spoke to that have used RP in various vehicles. When I would down shift to first gear I could hear the syncros spinning with RP. My buddy used GM recommended fluid in his goat with the same tranny as my camaro and his was much quieter (cold and hot) and it felt smoother to me.
Not that RP is bad, it could be the best, but it felt too thin for my liking. If notchy isn't your thing then stick with GM.

OK, cool.

I'm just a bit worried how long the new tranny will last if it's catching the cogs. There is no grinding or blocking or kick back. It just passes the mechanical feel back into the shifter. Like I say though, when run at highway speeds for 20 mins plus it feels really sweet. I wonder if the RP needs to be really warm to work well?

I'm not happy at all with the noise on lift off which I assume is coming from the Diff. Two friends have independently told me it should be of no concern but, it was quieter before on what was most likely GM fluid.

I think I may well try a fluid swap and see what that does.

Thanks for the post.
