A little very fine emery paper will remove the green corrosion you will see on the brass connector strip.
If you don't want to have to do it again in another 6 years a little petroleum jelly or electrical contact grease will prevent it happening again.
I reckon if you go out to the garage now even with no prior experience you'll have them both as good as new within the hour. That and an enormous sense of satisfaction and 30 bucks in your pocket not mr GM's.
I had to replace mine on my '06 after about four years of easy use. The local dealership sells them for about $11 each. Very easy to replace, just be sure the wire doesn't fall back into the door after you disconnect it. I tied a cord on it to prevent that.
