Default Headers install + tune = $$$$???

I've searched on this and haven't found any recent results.

I got quoted $1400 to install a set of LG's and a tune using my Trinity. $700 just for the headers!

I know this is absolutely Ridiculous (with a capital "R"). What would be more appropriate currently?

I've already started building my ramps to get the car off the ground high enough for a jack. No way is that job worth $700 to me. I was just hoping to have it tuned at the same time, but I think I'll just get Lew to do a mail-order until I can find a shop that isn't so Ridiculous.

So, what is a more appropriate number for this job?

$300-$400 max

It isn't a hard or lengthy install at all. A decent shop should knock it out in 3-4 hours.

what headers did you get for 700? I know LG street series is 1100 and thoes are the cheaper ones.

My kooks with catted x were -1400
Tune-500
install-400

so I say your quoted prices are ok, just the other way around. Install and tune 800/900 and the headers 1100-1600.

He didn't buy headers for $700 from what I'm reading (could see how it could be read both ways though)

My understanding is that was to be the cost of the install?

In that case, the cost of tuning is also ridiculous, lol.

OP, fill out your profile.

People can help recommend a reputable shop if they know where about you are located.

Header install is not difficult at all. Grab a mechanically inclined buddy, buy him beer and pizza, and you will be done in an afternoon. Saves you hundreds...

I did it myself in an afternoon on jackstands, also adding z06 mufflers and m2w controller... Left it untuned until I was able to drive it to get it tuned... You wont hurt anything if u go untuned short term.

Hey, guys. Thanks for the responses. Y'all confirmed what I was thinking.

Sorry for the ambiguity of my original post. Yes, the $700 was just for the header install. I have LG Pros.

They quoted 7.5 hours for the header install (7.5 @ $95/hr = $712.50). They also told me that longtubes require the engine to be lifted/moved to get the header in place and that the steering shaft has to be disconnected as well.

Needless to say, I have decided to steer clear of this place. Apparently, they build some nice LS race cars. I'll never know.

They came recommended by the guys at Diablosport as a good DS tuner too. That's how I found them. FWIW, they weren't familiar enough with the DS Trinity to even acknowledge it in their email responses.

Sooo...I've decided to do it myself. I'm capable of pulling it off, but it's hard to find the time lately. I was hoping to have the headers installed and have it tuned at the same time when I dropped it off. Guess I'll just have to make time. I'll be damned if I'm going to pay anybody that kind of money to R&R a few pipes and bolts. Nuts.

Thanks again to everyone who chimed in. I filled out my profile a little better. Sorry about that.

I'm still looking for a good shop in the Hampton Roads area if anyone knows of any. I'm set for shops in Texas that I trust. I just won't be back for a while longer.

I'm kinda Hell bent on using Diablosport products too, so I'm still looking for a good DS tuner. I'm willing to drive to drive much further for a tuner than for a shop.

You can do it yourself on jackstands in 5-6 hours EASILY if you've never done it before. 3-4 hours if you know what you're doing and hustling.
