Default Brake questions.

I had my pads replaced at the dealer. I have a '06 A6 Z51. The pads feel like they are not performing like the last set. The part numbers they used were 88909667 and 19169649. Also there is a lack of brake dust on my rims that I have been used to seeing. Could they have put the wrong set on the car?

They used ceramic pads. From what I've read they do lack the stopping power of the standard pads but are very good none the less and also have very little dust. Those are the one's I will be putting on mine very soon.

Your going to need to bed them then they will feel fine. Do a search and it's easy to do.

They put ceramic on, if you did not ask for these I would go back and tell them you want the OEM pad. I looked up the part# and it sais the following.

P/N 88909667 Front Durastop Ceramic Performance Brake Pads

If you want a high qualitty aftermarket pad let me know. I would suggest our 1521 compound.

The Carbotech™ 1521™ is our high performance street compound. The 1521™ compound is known for its release and modulation, along with unmatched rotor friendliness. 1521™ is also a very low dusting and low noise compound with an excellent initial bite. This compound's excellent linear torque production provides incredible braking force without ABS intervention. Carbotech™ 1521™ operating range starts out at ambient and goes up to 800°F (426°C+). 1521™ is suitable for ALL street cars, perfect for your tow vehicle or fleet vehicle. Carbotech™ 1521™ is NOT recommended for ANY track use.

They do not stop nearly as good as the originals. I did not notice until I went to the track and almost went off turn 1.

Did you bed the brakes after installing the new pads?

You should have realized after bedding them that they weren't going to be satisfactory for the track.

Ceramic pads are not recommended for the track. Here's an excerpt from the Nat'l Corvette Museum's pre-event checklist for preparing your car for one of their HPDE's:

__ BRAKE FLUID: clean, full, DOT 4 within 30 days of event
__ BRAKE PEDAL: firm
__ BRAKE LIGHTS: in proper working order
__ BRAKE PADS: at least 1/2 of full thickness; new preferable. Ceramic pads not recommended
__ BRAKE CALIPERS: clean and dry
__ BRAKE LINES: in good condition

Completely agree with everyone above. Sounds like you had the ceramic pads in the car, and that is in no way compatible to even the stock pads.

They bedded them at the dealer, I never had a situation where I had to get them to near lockup on the road. At the track they were just terrible. After my first lap I put a camera on the nose of the car in case I went off I would get it on video. The service manager is looking into my situation. I would not advise anyone to get these pads if you want the best performance from your brakes.

The dealer replaced my pads and what a difference. I have my old car back with it's excellent braking capabilities. Going to the track this weekend to have some fun!
