With the valves closed....it is almost stock. When they go open, typically I see them go up about 4 to 5 times louder than before.

I have ARH 1-7/8's with cats. I had the NPP, but recently changed to new style Borla Touring. I was going to get the "S" type, but I talked to Borla and they said it would drone on the highway with headers.

The NPP sounded great open at full throttle, but to me the drone with them open on th highway was really annoying. Closed I thougt it was too quiet.

After having the Borlas for a while I'm pretty pleased, but I would not have spent the bucks had I known just how they would sound.

Some day when I want to waste ever more money, I may sell them and try something else. Next time I will have to hear it on a car first.

If there is any way you can hear someones car first hand before you decide, I really urge you to do it. Everyone's taste seem to run differently when it comes to sound.

i appreciate the help! im like my npp...i just want it to be nice and loud open, then quiet closed so i can still cruise on the highway somewhat. it sounds like it will be perfect for me. and i have mild to wild remote too. is your borla touring quieter than the npp was when it was open?

Yes, I think it is just what you want. Roars when open and is quiet and barely there when closed.

I think the Borla my be just a little quieter open at full throttle than the NPP.

I have a 2008 A6 with Kooks 1-3/4" coated headers, high flow cats/X-pipe, CAI, Pro tune running though the stock NPP mufflers. Closed it's slightly louder than stock someone not familiar with the car would not notice anything. Open the car sounds like there are no mufflers on it at all way too loud driving around town. Yes, I realize the NPP's are straight though when open. At WOT though the gears the car is insane loud even the tuner could not believe how loud it is. Think open headers.

My results exactly with AR 1 7/8" headers and NPP exhaust.
