Default Shock Recommendations Needed

As stated in the title-- looking to replace the stock O.E.M. shocks off of my C6 Base coupe (non-Z51). Wanting a good quality long lasting (prefer to never replace them again) component. No needs other than what I just stated as its just a weekend driver. But IF there are shocks out there that will give me a noticeable difference (feel) without making the ride rougher I would like those. I know there are shocks WAY OUT THERE on the $$ end of the spectrum-- would rather not go there.

What do most folks go with??

Thanks in advance fellas

I would recommend Koni FSD's. Nice ride with great handling. About $700 for four.

Do a search on the koni fsd. That sounds like the shock you need. They come up in the classifieds section once in a while. I'll have a set for sale once i have a chance to install my new coilovers

Koni FSD's are the best but a less expensive route are the Bilstein HD's. They were an awesome upgrade to my OEM Z51 shocks. I absolutely love them.

I'll be the lone, dissenting vote on the Koni FSD shocks. I have them and they replaced fully serviceable Z51 shocks. Prior to adding the Konis, I changed the tires to PS2 ZPs. That was the biggest change to handling and ride (from the Goodyear Supercar runflats).

Frankly, I can tell no difference in ride, handling, control, etc. with the Konis. That's my opinion and I have liked the brand in the past. This time, it was just an okay, one-to-one replacement. Oh well....

Good bang for the buck are ZO6 shocks! You can purchase them from time to time on this forum.

I would never recommend any of the GM shocks (excluding the magnetic shocks, which I also wouldn't recommend due to price). The shocks on the Corvette are the weakest part of the car IMHO. First thing I replaced.

Dammit, that's what I like to hear.....a strong consensus of opinion Thought adding Z51 sways and Z06 shocks would be a great upgrade for my '08 base coupe. Ahhhhh shoot.

I'll throw in my 2 cents, just put DRM Bilsteins on my z51 and noticed a positive difference over the stock z51 shocks.

With that improvement I can also feel the road much more which doesnt bother me in the least.

Pfadt JOC. I love them.

But, my Saturdays and Sundays often consist of track time.

I have a set of Z51 shocks for $80 shipped if you would them. A very inexpensive "experiment" if you will. They have 41k miles on them and work fine.

I upgraded to the DRM custom Bilstiens and am awaiting track results to post impressions.

PM me if you're interested. I'm not trying to get rich, just offset the cost of my latest round of mods...

this is the exact setup on my Base '05 and it was the best upgrade I've done to the car. Rides like a sports car and handles like its on rails.
My Z06 shocks have over 70K miles on them and they still ride just like they did the day I put them on the car.

Dont let someones personal opinion of OEM parts deter you way from low cost effective performance. GM would not put a "low quality part" on a z06 or zr1.

Personally I wouldn't put the OEM Z06 shocks on the car....I didn't like them on my Z, nor would I want to put them on a base car.

My vote would be Bilstein HD's or the Koni FSD's. I don't know if they would last forever but longer than stock.

Aren't the Bilsteins quite a bit cheaper than the FSD's? Not wishing to hijack the OP's thread. Hopefully, we'll all get a little knowlege out of this. $700 seems quite a bit for a set of shocks.

They (Bilstein's) retail at $132.50 ea shock but most places like ourselves have the set's for $399 + shipping.

I have a base C6, and I replaced the stock shocks with Bilstein HDs. I wish I had made the change long ago. The shocks made a huge difference in handling and ride.
