One clue is a large puddle of oil underneath the rear of the car, and it won't go anywhere.

Do you have some symptoms?

Here is a link to changing out your diff fluid. Try doing this and see if this helps.

It needs attention if you are hearing noises from it, or is leaking fluid.

Well bullet holes would be a clue

Yes, as above noises - big clue.
Leaks could be seals or a crack - lift car and look.
Metal shavings or chunks in oil - drain your oil.

If you hear a whine under light throttle conditions that goes away when you lift off the throttle or add more throttle. Probably would hear it at 40 to 60 mph. Might be hard to hear over the tire noise, etc.

Check your break away torque.

You can do this hot or cold, but which ever way you do it....it will change the readings.

Jack the car up and lock one wheel in place, then use a torque wrench on the other side on the axle nut. You will see how much torque it takes to get the wheel to start spinning, and then how much it takes to keep it moving.

What TORQUE VALUE do you expect to see? Ive been told that values between 75-100 ft/lbs is SAT! Anything below 70 would start to show wear. If you have a broken belview spring, it will not put the designed preload on the clutches.

here are a few post that will give you an idea on whats inside our rears. They are based on a C5 rear BUT,, the C6 is pretty much very simular inside:

- C5, ragtopws6 , Upgrading your C5 rear with C6 Z06 guts, : http://forums.corvetteforum.com/c5-g...-z06-guts.html

- C5, Its_Go_Time, Output Shaft Install - Left and Right: http://forums.corvetteforum.com/c5-t...post1573407966

- C5 Differential Seal replacement: http://forums.corvetteforum.com/c5-g...on-photos.html

What gives you the idea that you may have rearend issues. Describe your noises and when they happen. Have you ever had the rear serviced?

Depends on the diff of course.....

Most of them brand new are going to come in around 110-130 break away torque. Once they break in you will typically see 85-95.

Drivers typically start to complain around 50-60, and it is almost un-drivable by 25-40

2007 c6 currently at dealership getting diff rebuilt.

My symptoms were noise from the rear end 45MPH down to 25MPH, no matter what gear. I also felt the noise in the gear shifter.

This was all with no load - gas off coasting. Gas on = No noise.
